The Public Archaeology Laboratory Inc. (PAL) is seeking an experienced and versatile hands-on manager to join our team. Incorporated in 1982, PAL is a 50-person Cultural Resource Management company based in Pawtucket, RI. Our staff consists of architectural historians and archaeologists who work primarily in New England and the mid-Atlantic. Our IT Manager is an essential member of our staff who will be responsible for providing comprehensive IT services, establishing best practices, maintaining and expanding our computing environment, and interfacing with our Managed Service Providers. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and manages one other IT staff person.

Responsibilities

Virtualized environments like Hyper-V or VMware (co-manage with MSP)
End-user software deployment, installation, and troubleshooting
Support co-managed telephone system
Hardware and software licensing, warranty, and support agreement tracking
Disaster recovery standards implementation (co-manage with MSP)
Manage vendor relationships (MSP co-manage services, vendors, etc.)
IT asset purchase recommendations and management
Microsoft 365 administration (Office Update Channels, Teams, Active Directory, AD Sync, Intune MDM, etc.)
Perform Active Directory tasks joining computers to a domain, creating users and groups, assigning permissions
Manage systems that provide vulnerability patching, virus and malware prevention (Windows Defender ATP)
Maintain a centralized Anti-Virus solution (Microsoft Defender)
Participate in IT project planning, execution, and completion
Maintain technical documentation, manuals, and IT policies (Compliance, Applications, Device, Scripts)
Formalize and execute IT onboarding and off-boarding procedures
Employee hardware and software management
Administer cloud-based applications
Produce budgets and optimize cost efficiency

Requirements

On-site role, Pawtucket, RI
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States
Minimum 5 years of technology operations and management experience
Minimum of 3 years managing an IT department or managing IT systems
Experience working in a virtualized environment (Hyper-V or VMWare)
Advanced knowledge of computer troubleshooting and repairs
Network and standalone printer support, installation, and troubleshooting
Demonstrated knowledge of PC and Mobile device configuration and support
Experience with Windows operating systems and Windows Active Directory
Knowledge of Anti-Spam protection solutions
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365 stack (E3 P1)
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively work in a team environment and build strong relationships
Ability to work well with others in a dynamic environment, execute under deadline pressures, and with multiple priorities, and/or multiple complex situations daily
Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment
