SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a full-time Vice President for Academic Affairs. Reporting directly to the College President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs has broad responsibilities for the planning, development, and administration of the College's educational programs and services. As the Chief Academic Officer of the College, this position ensures the academic integrity of the College and supports innovations in programs and methods of delivery that respond in a timely manner to a rapidly changing environment. The Vice President for Academic Affairs directs the work of the Academic Affairs leadership team, which promotes the effective interrelationship between instructional services and academic initiatives. The Vice President consults with the members of the team on issues affecting the Academic Affairs division of the College and works collaboratively to ensure that the College meets its enrollment management goals. This incumbent brings forward recommendations concerning College-wide cooperative ventures, communication, and allocation of resources to the Cabinet and to the President. The Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for the management of Administrators whose functions are under the Department of Academic Affairs, and staff assistants.

Responsibilities

Serves as Chief Academic Officer of the College.
Actively participates as a member of the President's Cabinet and assists the President and other senior managers in achieving priority institutional objectives identified in the College's Strategic Plan.
Creates the annual Operational Plan for the division of Academic Affairs; oversees and guides the creation and implementation of annual operational plans for the Academic Affairs leadership team and assists the division leadership team in achieving priority institutional objectives; evaluates progress toward goals, and objectives.
Prepares the annual budget for the division of Academic Affairs, in line with the College's strategic priorities.
Ensures that the activities of Academic Affairs meet the requirements of the College's accrediting and licensing agencies.
Supports enrollment management initiatives and innovations in programs and methods of delivery that respond in a timely manner to a rapidly changing environment.
Oversees the creation of a comprehensive, integrated retention plan, in collaboration with the President's Executive team.
Oversees the systematic and routine assessment of all academic affairs programs and services to measure and plan continuous improvement.
Ensures that the College offers an inclusive environment that celebrates and promotes understanding and respect within a diverse student body, staff, and community.
Annually reviews the program mix to ensure that academic programs that directly support the needs of the community and the students are initiated and maintained.
Supports mutually beneficial partnerships between the College and business/industry, not-for-profit organizations, and other educational institutions.
Serves as the primary contact for SUNY and local, state and federal agencies in matters pertaining to the academic program.
In cooperation with the Academic Affairs leadership team, formulates and proposes policies, subject to presidential and trustee approval as needed, concerning all facets of academic and student affairs.
Provides leadership in the incorporation of instructional technologies and professional development to improve student learning.
Maintains compliance with the terms of contracts with employee bargaining units; participates in the negotiating process by assisting in the formation of negotiating strategy, formulating proposals and counterproposals and advocating management's position.
Works closely with other areas of the College to ensure that physical space is used effectively and efficiently.
Maintains regular communication and working relationship with other areas of the College, keeping them informed of current activities and working with them to achieve institutional priorities.
Upon the recommendation of the academic leadership team, reviews and provides final authorization for claim forms, travel requests, budget encumbrances, and requests for temporary employees, equipment purchases, personal service agreements, etc.
Prepares an annual report on the activities of the Academic Affairs area.
Completes special assignments as requested and assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned by the President.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in a related field from a regionally accredited college or university
At least ten years of demonstrated successful experience in progressively responsible teaching, administrative and educational leadership positions in a College setting; experience in a community College setting strongly preferred.
Demonstrated successful experience in strategic planning, fiscal management, academic program development, resource allocation and personnel supervision

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy.
Proven ability to work as a team player, appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and the ability to tolerate and flourish in an environment characterized by multiple complex factors, competing priorities, ambiguous situations, and resource challenges.
Ability to supervise and evaluate assigned staff while building a highly effective working team.
Ability to interpret and apply college policies and procedures; ability to resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view.
Excellent skills in oral and written communication.

Additional Information

Salary: $115,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
