Job Description
This is a professional IT position that provides Internet security services to customers around the State of Missouri. Services are provided over the phone, in person, and in the form of presentations for small user groups, conferences and webinars. MOREnet's security analysts serve cybersecurity needs for approximately 700 members state-wide.
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
Research, Analysis, and Testing :
- Research, analyze, and work with area experts to recommend network security architecture and threat-mitigation strategy for the MOREnet network
- Work with MOREnet’s Network Services team to ensure compatibility with existing solutions, infrastructure and services and to coordinate security architecture implementation and modification activities.
- Analyze current systems and work with appropriate staff to devise new and better security systems, evaluate the effectiveness of security controls, determine the accuracy of reports, and monitor the efficiency of mitigation solutions.
Incident Response And Support
- Coordinate the handling and resolution of network security incidents, recoveries, breaches, intrusions, and/or system abuses. Identify, investigate and source security violations. Implement appropriate action to stop the violation and prevent future occurrence.
- Decipher and make recommendations for network infrastructure to secure a LAN/WAN environment.
- Maintain current and informed awareness of network security compromises, their means of entry, effects on systems, and means of prevention. Prepare user notices of same.
Training/Documentation/Presentations
- Develop, facilitate and present network security/threat mitigation training; including conference presentations, webinars or tech shares to peers.

Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
Minimum Qualifications
- Professional experience supporting a system's operating environment; working with software products and hardware components; performing diagnostics for multi-tasking problems; implementing and maintaining vendor commercial software or hardware components; analyzing risk assessment needs. Knowledge of system management disciplines such as security architecture, disaster recovery, and help desk operations. Knowledge of networking design architecture.
- Knowledge of current, security issues, and technological developments/trends. Knowledge of the nature and sources of security threats and methodologies/technical requirements for devising solutions.
- Knowledge of industry standards for IT security and operating procedures. Proven ability to develop policy and procedure documentation.
- Ability to install, troubleshoot and maintain security monitoring software and software enhancements.
- Ability to identify and respond to system intrusions and security breaches.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills - sufficient to deal effectively and diplomatically with a wide variety of people, effectively elicit IT information from users, train users in technical procedures/design, negotiate at all levels, present effectively to a wide range of audiences, maintain confidentiality, and document IT related procedures.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to work within unit and security policies and guidelines.
- Comfortable with and able to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and manage multiple assignments.
- Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision including the ability to manage time appropriately.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of a work assignment and to participate as a member of a cross departmental project team.
- Ability to work under pressure; meet inflexible deadlines; deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of cybersecurity and/or data security work experience. Network+ and/or Security+ certification.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $51,875 - $70,000 Commensurate with experience

The Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet) provides Internet connectivity, technical services, resources and support, as well as technical training to Missouri's public sector entities, including K-12 schools, colleges and universities, public libraries, health care, government and other affiliated organizations.
Established in 1991, MOREnet operates as a unit within the University of Missouri, and is based in Columbia, Mo. The MOREnet network is the foundation infrastructure. Members utilize our experts as well as interact with each other and their constituents via data, video services and events.
