Chicago Communications, LLC, located in Elmhurst, Illinois, seeks a highly qualified and motivated individual to fill an open, full-time position of Network Engineer.
The Network Engineer position reports to the Service Supervisor and is responsible for network design, implementation, and repair of Motorola Solutions’ mission-critical wired and wireless network communications equipment around the Tri-State area.
The ideal candidate should be capable of designing and deploying both wired and wireless network environments with the intent of running communications systems across the platform. This person should possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Candidates should also be capable of taking initiative and working independently, as well as working in a team environment. Candidates should have at least four years of experience in the design, development, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, network environments, and computer technology. The Motorola Solutions systems operate on networks comprised of HP, Aruba and Juniper routers and switches with Dell servers and computers.
Responsibilities
• Meeting with customers at times to discuss design requirements, issues and resolutions related to their systems.
• Designing and deploying IT network infrastructure for LAN and WAN environments.
• Program, repair, and reconfigure computers, switches, routers, and microwave equipment.
• Analyze existing IT infrastructure and reverse engineer them to map and develop additional equipment and interfaces.
• Analyze multiple hardware and software platforms to integrate them into existing customer networks where possible.
• Create complete system documentation for systems deployed using Microsoft Office and Visio or other software documentation platforms.
• Strong and independent working knowledge and experience with routing protocols, VLANs, and spanning tree.
• Cisco (CCNA), CompTIA (Network+), or Juniper Networks (JNCIA) is a plus.
• Schedule software patches, bug fixes, and hardware updates.
• Create remote monitoring systems for deployed hardware.
• Taking and responding to field service calls in a timely manner.
• Utilizing problem-solving skills to diagnose problems properly.
• Communicating regularly with Dispatch regarding repair and to escalate support where needed.
• Ensuring service issues are fully resolved and acquiring customer confirmation of resolution before leaving the site.
• Maintaining and submitting proper and complete repair records
• Performing any other duties as assigned by the Service Supervisor, Service Director, or Management
Qualifications
• Ability to work 40 hours per week
• Ability to work overtime if needed
• Ability to periodically travel with overnight stay(s).
• Available to be in 24x7 on-call rotation
• Joining I.B.E.W. Local Union #134
• A valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Must clear a background check and drug screen
• Proficiency in the English language, including proper usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
• Ability to design, deploy, configure, update, and repair networks
• Knowledge of basic electrical systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to learn and understand Radio Systems.
• Ability to learn the use of RF test equipment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to follow company policies and procedures.
• Ability and openness to learn new technologies and applications.
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering is a plus.
• Minimum 4+ years of experience in networking design, repair and troubleshooting
