Responsibilities
This person will report to the CTO. They will supervise, guide and mentor a team of 3 consisting of DevOps and software engineers in a mostly Linux environment. The team currently supports production and corporate IT needs.
This is a growth position to guarantee our expansion in the next few years from a small company with a single facility to a medium sized one.
We are looking for someone with supervisory management experience in a current hands-on networking role. They will fine tune this area of our IT infrastructure to create a secure, automatable, reproducible design for national deployment. Your approach must also be applied to the expected DevOps challenges to meet this goal.
The team is currently small but expected to grow. There will therefore be an initial on-call requirement.
Networking
The role will be responsible for:
- Network Leadership and Design: Architect and manage the deployment of network infrastructure for new data center and office setups independently, with minimal reliance on third-party vendors.
- Hands-On Technical Mastery: Perform the necessary configuration tasks for these deployments.
We have some immediate networking projects that this role will need to personally implement.
DevOps & Software Engineering
The role will oversee the following:
- IT Leadership and Design: The design, deployment and management of our corporate and server IT infrastructure to support our business needs.
- Software Development: The ongoing development of in-house systems to manage our customer portal, billing and systems integration needs.
Being hands-on in this area is expected to be occasional, not day to day. We need someone with competent supervisory management skills for this aspect of the role.
Other
- Day-to-day operations: Oversee IT incident management, problem management, change management, vulnerability management, upgrades, repairs, trouble ticketing and monitoring.
- Budgeting: Manage the procurement of hardware and software to support ongoing operations, and technology upgrades.
- Vendor and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with third-party vendors, and critical internal stakeholders to align IT services with organizational needs.
- Compliance and Security: Ensure the infrastructure adheres to all regulatory and cybersecurity standards, coordinating with relevant departments to maintain audit compliance.
- Performance Monitoring: Oversee the monitoring of infrastructure performance across all locations to ensure optimal operation.
- Strategic Reporting: Regularly evaluate critical networking KPIs, report performance metrics to senior management, and recommend improvements.
- Policy Development: Develop, document, and maintain IT security policies, and general procedures.
Requirements
- At least 3-5 years of proven leadership experience managing a small technical team within an enterprise environment.
- At least 5-8 years of experience in network engineering.
- Demonstrable skills in advanced troubleshooting and configuration in a Cisco environment. Familiarity with network infrastructure including VPN, LAN / WAN, IDS, firewalls and WiFi technologies supporting a multi-site production network. Hands-on experience with BGP and OSPF is a plus.
- Hands-on familiarity with both Linux and Windows systems. SysAdmin experience with these is a plus.
- Strong track record of successfully leading IT projects.
- Ability to work effectively with both internal stakeholders and external vendors to meet the strategic IT goals of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills to regularly assess IT performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Team player with a high level of dedication and commitment to excellence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
