As Director, Cloud Engineering, you will be responsible for developing a rigorous cloud product roadmap, enablement of cloud services and automation to enable business strategies and ensure public cloud solutions are optimized for cost and functionality. Develops and drives cloud service patterns and models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) along with the introduction of new emerging technologies and public cloud services, cloud adoption plans, cloud application design, and cloud management and monitoring strategies.
Leads a team of product engineers, cloud practitioners and FinOps professionals, to develop cloud services and work with stakeholders across the firm to drive cloud product adoption using DevSeOps, agile and self-service methods.
Have great empathy for developers and legacy infrastructure teams and guide cloud journey working with other executives.
The successful candidate will be able to translate complex ideas, technology, and programs into language senior management can relate to and be a key influencer on technical decisions that affect the business on a long-term basis.
- Drive a team to engineer the overall Enterprise Cloud Platform services based on the platform architecture roadmap.
- Serve as cloud-based product engineering thought leader and global evangelist for DevSecOps based ways of working.
- Provide leadership and highly specialized expertise in the platform portfolio, complicated data ecosystems, big data and high compute clusters and modern IaaS / PaaS or cloud native deployments, focusing on reusability, cost optimization, and well-architected principles.
- Drive implementation of developer portal for self-service and guided service models
- Oversee and drive the deployment of automated infrastructure and software deployments from development to production. Demonstrates innovative methods of cloud-based IaaS / PaaS deployments and modern scripting tools to quickly launch, shut down and re-launch platforms and applications using modern and innovative scripted techniques on in an agile accelerating approach and realizing business outcomes, while keeping alignment with the business vision. Also act as a coach for operational excellence to other teams.
- Provide leadership to advanced cloud-native operations management. This includes “key management” and “controlled operations” for continuous deployments. They will also ensure quality of service for highly complex deployments with source code control, automation, understanding of scripted service-based environments into IaaS/PaaS ecosystems, with business continuity in mind.
- Ability to start with the business strategy and develop an engineering approach that builds extensible frameworks and architectures that tackle a range of future opportunities that help our customers do things quicker and easily in a self-serve environment.
- Manage strategic global systems configuration and deployment within platform, providing proper discipline and rigor as we deploy new innovative solutions to produce insights that impact our portfolio.
- Lead and manage advanced service teams for the platform portfolio focused on innovation within Berkley’ public cloud environment and manage third party operations teams to function together to provide all the above.
- Translates complex ideas, technology, and programs into language senior management can relate to and performs as a key influencer on technical decisions that affect the business on a long-term basis.
- Leads the development of metrics and scorecards to influence the technology teams on industry best practices for cloud development.
- Performs as an idea generator, working with others as a thought leader and subject- matter expert to help brainstorm new processes and solutions. Shares highly complex information related to areas of expertise. Interacts with senior management to keep abreast of objectives. Transfers knowledge and collaborates across functional lines and/or across departments. Interacts with direct reports and peers in management / customers / vendors to interpret information and improve cross-functional processes and programs. Builds and enhances key internal and external contacts.
- Develops short- and long-range product and service strategies and plans. Oversees the execution of operating plans for specified area of responsibility.
- Sets financial, operational and quality objectives for the team; develops and manages department budget and an operational plan; deliver against business goals/objectives.

- 8+ years of experience leading Software Engineering and/or Architecture Experience in Managing OS or Application service teams
- 5+ years of experience contributing to financial business decisions in the workplace.
- 5+ years of direct leadership, indirect leadership, and/or cross functional team leadership.
- Experience with public cloud architecture, Cloud strategy, networking, security, compliance workload types, migration patterns and tools. `
- Experience with various enterprise applications and IT services, as well as software development, compliance and security, and IT operations disciplines.
- Experience managing operations of large-scale internet-centric Data environments for application or data services serving tens of thousands of end users
- Experience re-architecting applications for cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of cloud design patterns, cloud operations and cloud cost models with experience implementing best practices or suggested improvements.
- Knowledge of AI/ML technologies and ability to enable big data in the cloud.
- Bachelor’s degree OR a combination of education and equivalent experience
- Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
