Job Description
Our Client is currently seeking an experienced System Administrator with expertise in networking, virtualization, and server farms on-prem equipment to join our dynamic team. As a System Administrator, you will play a pivotal role building and maintaining our US based IT systems, that will allow moving around and processing extremely high volumes of data.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain data collection sites’ computing infrastructure to support a smooth data collection operation.
- Assemble site’s server rack, installing and setup computer, storage and networking devices, wiring, installing and configuring the machines, and deploy the services that run the systems.
- Build and maintain a datacenter.
- Design tracking tools and monitor power, network and general resources utilization (e.g. storage) and other health parameters and alert stakeholders.
- Monitor performance and troubleshoot the computing environment to achieve optimal performance and resource utilization
- Plan, build and maintain sites’ IT infrastructure (Wifi, network ports, security).
- Develop comprehensive documentation including system configurations, procedures, and guidelines, to ensure seamless operation and knowledge transfer.
- Help desk activities: Onboarding new employees (set up laptops, etc.) and supporting the day-to-day employees’ IT problems and needs.
- Work closely with the Data group users to understand their needs, support them, propose appropriate solutions, and deliver projects within scope, budget, and timeline.
- Identify and operate contractors at specific areas of expertise (e.g. office network wiring) to support when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience (4+ years) as an IT Engineer/ System Administrator, specializing in networking and data center design.
- Familiarity with server hardware including rack-mount and blade servers.
- Experience with storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, or object storage, and their integration with virtualized environments.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation languages such as PowerShell or Python, for task automation and management of virtualized environments.
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems including Ubuntu, CentOS, or Red Hat.
- Familiarity with networking concepts, protocols, and services, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VPN, RADIUS.
- Significant experience in AWS with focus configuration and management – Advantages.
- Must have a strong background with LAN, WAN, Routers, Switches, and other network hardware (802.1Q, QoS, Firewalls, LACP, Stack, BGP).
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve technical issues.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
