As a Network Engineer at WWT, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our network infrastructure. You will play a critical role in ensuring the stability and performance of our network systems, supporting our data center operations, and providing technical expertise to senior management. Your experience in troubleshooting network issues, writing technical documentation, and working with structured cabling infrastructure will be essential to your success in this role.
Network Engineer
Duration: 6 Months (till the end of January and will look to possibly bring them on perm if all goes well)
Location: San Antonio, TX
Job Details:
- 90% onsite supporting our 24x7x365 critical mission
- This is an onsite role but we allow 10% of the time to be offsite only for special circumstances
- Will work 45 hours weekly on average depending on coverage needs
- Normal work schedule for this role will be Monday – Friday, 7 am – 4 pm
- Individuals will need to be prepared to work nights and alternate shifts if needed to support changes and implementations (we estimate this to be less than 5% of the time.
Responsibilities:
- Support technology deployments, upgrades, refreshes, and decommissions
- Work with the corporate network engineering team and other data center engineers to create detailed plans for technicians/analysts to execute regarding where and how to rack, stack, and cable equipment
- Utilize DCIM (Data Center Information Management) software to document installation and connectivity plans
- Create additional technical documentation/instructions as needed to support technician/analyst efforts
- Assist with rack, stack, and cable efforts when needed
- Perform initial configurations, assist with additional configurations, and wipe configurations when decommissioning network equipment
- Install, test, validate, & document firmware updates.
Support Incidents & Changes
- Act as point of escalation for technicians/analysts for network and connectivity issues
- Available to receive calls when off shift every fifth week if issues arise
- Work with 24x7 Operations staff to create and update incident records as needed
- Create change records and assemble supporting information for planned changes
- Update change documentation to accurately reflect change events, successes, and/or failures
Qualifications:
- 6 Years of Experience supporting network infrastructure
- 4 Years Experience writing technical documentation or standard operating procedures related to IT technical support or deployment
- 4 Years Experience troubleshooting network issues (layer 1-3)
- 2 Years Experience as a network engineer
- 2 Years Experience working with network infrastructure in a data center
- 2 Years Experience working with structured cabling infrastructure
- 2 Years Experience in an IT role requiring interaction with senior management
- 2 Years of Experience identifying rack, stack, and cabling requirements
Certifications: VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher is preferred.
