Position Summary
The Director of Global Security is responsible for establishing and maintaining a proactive Firmwide security program that ensures that people, property and assets are adequately protected and that complies with applicable laws and regulations. This position is responsible for identifying, evaluating, investigating, and reporting on security risks. The role requires a forward-looking, self-starter with strong skills in security, technology and business management. The Director oversees all physical security activities and implements best in class policies and standards with an eye towards risk mitigation. The Director should be knowledgeable about the legal office environment and will work to maintain all office facilities in a fully functional, secure mode. Because the Firm has offices in a number of countries around the world, the Director must be knowledgeable about the different types of risks encountered in those countries, the applicable laws and regulations in those locations, be sensitive to the different cultures in which the Firm operates and develop programs to mitigate those risks within the various cultures.
As appropriate, the Director will coordinate with law enforcement authorities in the various countries in which the Firm operates and with peers at other international law firms and will retain and oversee external resources involved in the security program.
The Director is expected to reside in the metropolitan area of one of the Firm's major East Coast offices (New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. or Pittsburgh) and will maintain an office in that location.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and monitor a strategic, comprehensive enterprise security risk management program.
- Develop and communicate organization security policies, programs and standards and ensure their compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Work cooperatively with the Chief Information Officer on information security to meet the technology security needs both of the Firm and its clients.
- Work cooperatively with the Chief Administrative Officer with respect to disaster management and office security.
- Coordinate the appropriate level of security for various Firm-related events on and off site.
- Develop and maintain communication channels with local, state, national and international law enforcement authorities and with peers at other international law firms.
- Investigate and, together with Firm senior management, be responsible for security incidents and similar events such as workplace violence, travel security and internal fraud.
- Coordinate the use of external resources involved in the security program.
- Work to develop business-relevant metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the security program.
- Ensure a thorough understanding of the security needs of every office across the global platform
- Coordinate with senior management the development and updating of business continuity strategies to ensure effective responses to security related crises.
- Develop processes for responding to medical emergencies.
- Conduct or assist in conducting security-related investigations.
- Assist with travel to sensitive destinations.
- Monitor potential security events across the global platform.
- Develop, review and update office emergency procedures on an annual basis.
- Oversee the administration of the Firm’s security badge system and emergency communications system.
- Supervision and development of the Secuity Manager.
- Deliver annual security awareness programs
- Establish and lead cross-functional teams to react to special concerns or events in cities where we do business.
- Over time and in response to the Firm's needs, develop a physical Security Department, manage that Department, develop and manage the security budget and develop/deliver appropriate awareness training programs.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education: Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Organizational Security, Information Systems Security or related field. Additional professional certifications or training in the following areas preferred: global studies, security management, strategic security, personal protection, CPR, first aid, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of the Security Manager
Equipment To Be Used: Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, calculator, fax, machine, copier, scanner, etc.
Essential Job Functions
- Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, intense eye usage, and finger, hand and wrist dexterity associated with prolonged computer use
- Ability to utilize technology, including computers and telecommunication devices.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with various personalities at all levels.
- Ability to work long days as required.
- Providing off-hours support and coverage as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. This may involve responding to critical incidents, performing system maintenance, or assisting with project deadlines.
- Must work in office as required.
- Must be able to travel for meetings and training as required.
Working Conditions
You will be required to work in the office at minimum 3 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor.
All of the Firm's offices are typical office settings although the nature of this position may require the Director to perform services outside the office. Must be able to travel to any and all cities and countries in which the Firm has offices or where Firm personnel may be assigned to work.
Pay Ranges: This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith’s pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

- Washington, DC: $174,000 – $205,000
