High level position responsible for designing and managing the overall structure and strategy of the city enterprise network and systems. Develop long-term IT strategies that support business objectives and growth, including the adoption of new technologies. Responsible for system designing and creating high-level designs for IT systems, including hardware, software, network, and data architectures, ensuring they meet performance and security requirements ensuring seamless integration of new technologies into existing systems, minimizing disruptions and maximizing functionality. Provide backup support for other members of the OIT Engineering team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (IT Architect)
- Develops and maintains the high-level design plan for the overall logical and technical network architecture.
- Provides technical leadership and consulting across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and technical assistance to other Network Engineers.
- Leads the design, development, and implementation of highly complex and highly available LAN/WAN systems in accordance with the City of Atlanta’s goals and objectives.
- Serves as the lead network engineer, technical architect/design expert and implementation expert for networking components in an integrated enterprise LAN/WAN environment.
- Provides expert level production support as the Tier 3 escalation point of contact.
- Collaborates with contractors, vendors, and other internal departments as needed to resolve complex technical issues.
- Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) on complex projects that have a network infrastructure component.
- Works within established change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
- Responds to, updates, and resolves incident tickets and tasks as assigned.
- Maintains and updates technical skills by participating in educational opportunities such as training/certifications, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and/or participating in professional organizations.
- Recommends and documents enhancements and optimization to enterprise networking systems and infrastructure.
- Configures, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades various networking components and services as required.
- Racks, wires, and mounts networking components as needed.
- Documents networking environment using industry standard tools (Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Word, etc.).
- Provides after-hours production support on a rotational basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).5 years of specific network experience.
Preferred Qualifications - Education & Experience & Certifications
Master’s degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the masters degree on an exception basis) with 5-8 years' of directly related professional work and certification in Network and or IT Architect (CCIE)
