We are working with a Country in Lovington, New Mexico. They are looking to hire a Director of IT.
This is a full-time role and is fully onsite. They are not open to contract or C2H candidates.
Job Summary:
The IT Director is responsible for overseeing the county-wide computer services operations, providing day-to-day administrative and operational leadership for the IT department. This role involves managing complex IT systems, coordinating with various county divisions, and ensuring that the County’s computing resources are secure, efficient, and available to support communication with employees and citizens.
Essential Duties:
- Lead and manage county-wide IT operations, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Provide administrative oversight of IT department functions, including staff management and operational tasks.
- Resolve complex issues related to system software, hardware, programming, configurations, and operations.
- Collaborate with County Divisions to develop, implement, and test information systems and data processing programs.
- Configure, test, and maintain computer-related infrastructure, including servers, routers, switches, communication circuits, and VOIP systems.
- Foster effective working relationships with staff, divisions, consultants, vendors, and the public.
- Ensure the security and availability of the County’s computing resources to enhance communication capabilities.
- Recommend acquisitions of hardware and software to improve operations.
- Serve as the primary advisor on IT matters to Division Supervisors, Elected Officials, the County Manager, and the Board of County Commissioners.
- Develop and monitor both short-term and long-term IT plans, including computer replacement strategies.
- Establish and implement policies and procedures related to computer usage, file management, internet access, and security.
- Prepare progress reports to update management on project status and any deviations from set goals.
- Provide and coordinate basic software training for staff.
- Plan, prioritize, and evaluate staffing assignments, providing feedback and recommendations.
- Manage help desk operations to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Continuously improve IT operations to enhance efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and streamline processes.
- Oversee the effective utilization of physical facilities, hardware, and software, including accounting for space, cooling, and power needs.
- Assess information systems resource requirements, prioritize needs, establish budgets, evaluate costs and benefits, and acquire necessary resources.
- Perform technical hardware modifications, installations, or repairs on PCs, monitors, printers, and other equipment as needed.
- Work irregular hours and attend job-related meetings as required, with minimal supervision.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the County Manager, consistent with the role’s expertise and responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related field preferred.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Experience:
- At least 7 years of experience as an IT Director or Manager, with progressively responsible roles in managing complex, multi-platform IT systems.
- Proven supervisory and budgetary experience.
- Experience in municipal IT management is preferred.
