This is an ON SITE Microsoft System Administrator position at the Alexandria, VA headquarters, where you will support all Microsoft and Linux technologies. You will primarily manage approximately 400 virtual Windows Servers daily, ensuring the health and performance of Windows versions 2016, 2019, and 2022. This role involves responding to and updating ServiceNow tickets for a wide variety of issues, incidents, problems, and change requests. You will also manage the Tenable Nessus “Servers and Workstation” dashboard to remediate findings and facilitate remediations if they are outside your ability.
In addition to your primary responsibilities, you will support M365 cloud environments (Azure, Exchange, TEAMS) and Linux virtual appliances. This includes managing Linux servers, ensuring their stability, performance, and security, and providing troubleshooting support for various Linux distributions.
Your Responsibilities Include:
· Providing troubleshooting and technical support for all Microsoft on-prem technologies, including but not limited to:
o Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP)
o Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS)
o Domain Name System (DNS)
o Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
o Internet Information Server (IIS)
o Microsoft Certificate Authority (CA)
o Microsoft Exchange 2019
o Microsoft SQL Server
o File Servers, NTFS Permissions, Group Management
· Managing and supporting Linux virtual appliances, including regular updates, security patching, and performance tuning.
· Developing shell scripts and using Linux command-line tools to automate routine tasks and improve system efficiency.
· Responding to and resolving ServiceNow tickets as assigned.
· Creating new servers from a VMware Template with minimal VMware system administration (e.g., adjust resources).
· Developing/modifying PowerShell scripts for system automation.
· Diagnosing connectivity problems; optimizing server performance.
· Discovering and resolving Event Viewer issues (Critical, Warning, Error).
· Ensuring hard drives do not exceed 90% and ensuring all critical windows services are running (daily check).
· Managing user access and file server access to shared folders.
· Enforcing cybersecurity principles and remediating security scan findings.
· Patching Windows Servers monthly via SCCM or WSUS (with secondary support to the full-time SCCM administrator).
· Supporting application developers by deploying their code to production, assigning SSL/TLS certificates to their websites, etc.
· Developing and documenting system admin standard operating procedures.
Required Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
· Strong experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
· Experience with Linux administration, including shell scripting and command-line tools.
· Expert knowledge of Windows Server 2012 / 2016 / 2019.
· 10+ years of hands-on technical support with Microsoft technologies.
· Good problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Desired Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:
· Current Microsoft MCSE or MCSA Certification.
· Experience with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
· Security+ Certification.
· Experience with Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIG).
· Certifications in Linux (e.g., RHCE, LPIC-1/2) are highly desirable.
· Experience in managing hybrid environments with both Windows and Linux servers.
