Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit
The Information Security & Identity Management division manages the University’s Information Security Office and Identity Management. The Security Office is responsible for coordinating and ensuring that information security across the University is consistent with industry best practices and the University’s compliance obligations. Identity Management (IdM) identifies individuals within an enterprise or group and defines and controls the access they have to information and resources within a computer network based on their roles and circumstances.
Position Summary
This position is a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. The Information Security Office coordinates the institution’s response to cyber risk, operates critical organization-wide security controls, and reports on the state of the security program to University leadership and the Board of Trustees. The UNC -CH security program ensures the institution meets relevant cybersecurity legal, statutory, regulatory, and compliance obligations across all aspects of the University mission. Identity and Access Management ( IAM ) is a part of the UNC -CH information security office. Reporting to the IAM manager, this new role of IAM Business Analyst is responsible for analyzing the complex policy, workflow, and requirements for the governance, lifecycle, and entitlements for all university affiliation types. Exercising a high level of judgement and independence, this position will identify and catalyze the resolution of identity-related governance questions and business process improvements. The IAM business analyst will lead and coordinate stakeholders and working groups across a broad range of domains and stakeholders, such as human resources, legal, compliance, security, technology, library, registrar, and more. This position will also create detailed requirements documentation for a highly technical team, requiring a strong fluency in technology and identity-related technical concepts. Finally, this role will collaborate with the IAM manager and IAM architect to set and track the identity strategy and its implementation.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
1: Exceptional analytical skills: Track record of clearly identifying business problems, objectives, and desired outcomes. Track record of identifying multiple means to deliver these objectives, analyzing the optimal solution for the given circumstances, and translating the proposal into specific plans and requirements.
2: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills: Demonstrable track record of effective communication with organizational leaders as well as area specialists.
3: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead discussions and meetings focused on problem solving.
4: Strong understanding of organizational dynamics, especially those of a distributed environment such as a research university.
5: High level of ownership, and ability to build trust across an organization.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
- Prior experience with or strong interest in Identity and Access Management.
- Prior experience with or strong interest in cybersecurity.
- Prior experience with or strong interest in software development life cycle.
