About This Position
The Authorization Specialist initiates and coordinates pre certification and prior authorization for customers with their insurance provider. The Authorization Specialist works closely with referring clinics, schedulers, internal clinics and physicians to ensure all clinical documentation has been obtained to gain authorization approvals in a timely matter. The Authorization specialist is also responsible for any pre service denials, whether this be completing the appeal, or guiding the physicians on the appropriate steps to gain authorization approval.
Requirements
Education
- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
Experience
- One to two years of work experience in Health Insurance, Prior Authorization, or a related health care field.
- Prior experience in customer service, especially in front end patient interactions regarding financial processes.
- Prior experience in communicating with insurance carriers to obtain authorization for services is preferred,
- EPIC Experience preferred
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Effective organizational skills, including ability to prioritize, problem solve, and resolve conflict.
- Excellent communication skills, especially when interacting with patients and families.
- Advanced knowledge of insurance, including government assistance programs.
- Medical Terminology
- Must be able to work under considerable stress, using tact and diplomacy.
- Strong computer skills..
- Basic math skills.
