Primary Function
This employee is responsible for the Network Infrastructure, Systems and associated parts/equipment fully supporting Eielson Air Force Base Air Combat Training Systems, Electronic Warfare Threat Systems, Joint Deployable Electronic Warfare Range of Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC). This employee will be responsible on ensuring the day-to-day Network Engineering support, system operability, supporting customers, troubleshooting, maintenance, and detailed records management of assigned systems. He/she is required to possess a detailed operational knowledge of Network Systems Infrastructure within JPARC.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for evaluating/maintaining microwave radios, legacy TDMA radios and Carrier Ethernet (Mesh, P2P & P2MP)
- Help establish guidelines, policies and procedures surrounding “network risks” and keeping range data “secure” which reflect Eielson mission needs.
- Evaluating/maintaining network elements (Routers, Switches, IDS/IPS, AAA, Firewalls, VPNs, etc.)
- Responsible for integrating new range network equipment (requirements, planning, evaluation, procurement, integration, test and monitoring)
- Task requires detailed knowledge of network architectures, performance, protocol suites, test tools, and equipment configurations of various network elements (concentrators, bridges, routers, switches, VPNs, Firewalls, Servers, Media converters, etc.)
- Ability to resolve network interoperability problem to obtain operations across all platforms
- Configure Joint Deployable Electronic Warfare Range (JDEWR) systems to different WAN/LAN environments in multi-nation environments
- Audit current and future range network equipment and implement security strategy
- Support design, acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services
- Assists design, acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services
- Develop solutions to information assurance problems based on requirements and available security programs and services
- Document network best practices for security and information assurance based on JDEWR and Eielson JIADS mission requirements
- Establish equipment configuration policies and backup; monitor for completion and viability
- Supervise planning and implementation of new range network projects to bring the right security implementation for smooth network operations during JDEWR and Eielson missions
- Monitor the security of range information systems, perform scans, carry out updates, and investigate security incidents
- Ensures equipment are operational for daily use
- Provides/supports detailed reports to management and during all Government reviews and meetings
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Microwave LOS link design/operation experience, link budgets, COTS availability
- UNIX and Windows system administration experience
- Low level debug experience, Windows and UNIX Kernel knowledge
- Hands on field experience required with military electronics
- Self-starter, individual contributor, and a team leader
- Electronic Warfare equipment training procedures and practices knowledge
- Point to Point microwave operations with packet routing technologies experience
- Ability to perform duties on and off military installations, both inside and outside with diverse terrain, climates, and varying infrastructure support.
- Ability to support travel around the Pacific to Korea, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Guam, Thailand, and Canada (anticipate 3 to 5 trips per year).
- Presentation and ability to give presentation to large audience.
- Ability to support other shop duties
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of an Engineering Degree (EE Preferred) with 5+ years of work experience on electronics systems, remote communication, or radar systems with wideband communications systems or equivalent work experience
- Performing work in the job’s occupational field requires the application of complex, technical professional disciplines requiring a four-year degree or equivalent and the extensive and applied use of related concepts, practices, and methods
- Network Expertise including design and troubleshooting; 5 years of practical network experience desired. Experience with multicast, routing, VPN, 802.1x, and security protocols
- Certifications: CISSP, Scanners, CCNP from Cisco or Juniper equivalent
- Data Processing, Data Center Experience, Informing Others, Reporting Skills, Supply Management, Independence, Productivity, Confidentiality, Documentation Skills, Equipment Maintenance, Problem Solving, Computers
- Air Force Range Support, Electronic Warfare equipment and Military training and weapons range electronic infrastructure experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a DoD background check, pass drug test and obtain SECRET security clearance with TS clearance eligibility
