A Week In The Life Of a Solutions Architect
- Lead the design and development of a comprehensive IT solution addressing business challenges, ensuring alignment with the customer’s strategic goals. Define and implement solution architecture.
- Serve as a technical leader providing guidance to the team. Facilitate collaboration across the teams to ensure that the IT solution is effectively implemented and supported.
- Working alongside the chief architect in a team-oriented environment, developing, deploying, and troubleshooting IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions
- While this position has direct client interface, you will also be the leading SME developing our growing DevSecOps practice.
- Implementing hybrid cloud management and associated controls, particularly extending/migrating on-prem private cloud solutions into AWS GovCloud.
- Engineering integrated solutions which utilize virtualization (VMWare, AWS), software-defined technologies (such as networking), infrastructure as code, API integrations, and DevSecOps (Containers, Micro-Services, Kubernetes).
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends. Evaluate new technologies for potential adoption to enhance business processes, customer experience, and competitive advantage.
- Oversee the lifecycle of IT projects from conception through deployment, ensuring timely delivery within budget. Manage risks and issues, making adjustments as necessary to meet project objectives.
- Troubleshooting Linux and Windows software applications and environments from layer 7 down.
Job Requirements
- Proven experience as a Solutions Architect or in a similar role, with a strong portfolio of successful IT projects.
- Deep knowledge of software architecture, cloud computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and modern application development practices (DevOps, Agile methodologies).
- Strong knowledge in AWS solutions and services (IAM, Lambda, and Cloud Formation knowledge is desirable)
- In-depth knowledge and significant experience with Linux and other open-source technologies
- Solid understanding of network infrastructure, database design, and data modeling.
- Experience with enterprise systems integration, including API management, middleware, and ERP systems.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and compliance regulations relevant to the industry. Experience with RMF ATO process.
- Experience with building and deploying systems in AWS IL5 environments and NIPRNet.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to non-technical audiences clearly and compellingly.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
- Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve technological and business goals.
- A current DoD Secret security clearance
- A current DoDI 8570 IAC Level II Certification (Security+, for example)
- 10+ years’ experience in the job requirements above
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
- This a full-time telecommuting position with occasional trips to Chantilly, HQ. Preferred Experience:
- ISC(2) CISSP Certification
- Previous eMASS and DoD RMF ATO experience
- Experience accrediting Atlassian products such as Jira Software, Confluence, Service Manager, and Jira plug-ins on the cloud for a DoD customer.
- Experience supporting Military Health organizations, such DHA.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is $100,000 – 120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
