Position Title: Security Engineer
Location: Newton, MA . (Hybrid)
Duration : Contract
The Security Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the information security needs of the campus locations. This role involves both day-to-day security operations and participation in various information security projects. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, with initial training required onsite for several weeks. Post-training, the role typically involves three days onsite and two days remote, subject to management’s discretion. The standard work hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, with occasional off-hour requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Security Project Management: Lead and participate in projects aimed at evaluating, designing, and deploying security solutions that meet client’s needs. Collaborate with various teams to determine requirements, select, develop, and implement appropriate security solutions.
• Risk Mitigation: Develop and recommend strategies to prevent security breaches and intrusions, working closely with the Director of Policy and Security. Manage access control for non-Information Security projects and analyze outputs from security monitoring systems.
• Cyber Incident Response: Act as a key resource for responding to cyber incidents, including the evaluation and implementation of firewall change requests, monitoring security products, and analyzing audit logs.
• Security Support: Provide technical guidance and support to IT staff and end users, ensuring adherence to client’s security policies and procedures.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
• Technical Expertise:
• Proficient in at least one technical domain of information security such as access control systems, firewalls, Intrusion Detection/Prevention, and Internet security.
• Strong knowledge of server and desktop operating system administration, network security, and application security.
• Programming Skills:
• Proficiency in coding languages such as C, Java, PERL, Python, or similar (strongly preferred).
• Experience:
• Hands-on experience with firewalls and Intrusion Detection/Prevention systems (strongly preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment, influencing stakeholders at various levels within a large organization.
• Certifications:
• Security certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), SANS, or similar are preferred.
Additional Requirements:
• Strong project management and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to a hybrid work schedule, with initial onsite training in the Northeast U.S.
• Availability for occasional off-hour tasks.
