About the Role:
We are seeking a visionary and experienced IT leader to assume the role of IT Director. This
role is pivotal in shaping and driving the technological strategy and operations for a growing
retail chain of hardware stores. The successful candidate will lead the Information Technology
department, ensuring that our IT infrastructure and systems align with the company's strategic
goals, support our retail operations, and enhance our competitive edge in the market.
Key Responsibilities:
● Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy that supports
the long-term objectives of the company, including technology innovation, digital
transformation, and system optimization.
● IT Department Management: Lead and mentor a dedicated IT team of 20-30
professionals. Oversee staff resources, ensuring effective project management and
alignment with the company's tactical and strategic goals.
● Technology Infrastructure: Manage and optimize the company's IT infrastructure,
including network security, data management, and system reliability, with a strong focus
on compliance (e.g., PCI DSS).
● Retail Systems: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of retail-specific IT
systems, ensuring seamless operation across all store locations. This includes
point-of-sale systems, inventory management, and customer relationship management
(CRM) tools.
● Legacy System Modernization: Lead the migration from legacy systems, such as the
IBM iSeries platform (AS400), to modern, SQL-based systems, ensuring minimal
disruption to operations.
● Cybersecurity: Implement robust security measures to protect company data and
customer information, proactively addressing potential threats and ensuring compliance
with industry standards.
● Project Oversight: Manage multiple, complex IT projects simultaneously, ensuring they
are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
● Vendor Management: Collaborate with external vendors and service providers to
acquire and implement the necessary technology solutions, ensuring they meet the
company's needs and are cost-effective.
● Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior management, ownership, and
other departments to ensure that IT initiatives support and drive business objectives.
Key Requirements and Competencies:
● Experience: 8-10 years of experience managing and leading an IT department within a
retail environment, with a proven track record of successful project management and
team leadership.
● Technical Expertise: Extensive experience with network infrastructure, server
administration, data warehousing, backup systems, and cybersecurity. Familiarity with
the IBM iSeries platform and modern SQL-based systems is essential.
● Retail Systems Knowledge: In-depth understanding of retail systems and processes,
including POS, inventory management, and CRM.
● Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to
inspire and motivate a diverse team of IT professionals.
● Problem-Solving Abilities: Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex
technical issues, with a proactive approach to risk management and innovation.
● Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the
ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
● Business Acumen: Strong understanding of business principles, with the ability to align
IT strategy with overall business objectives.
Education:
● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Not required but preferred.
Advanced degrees or certifications in IT management or related areas are a plus.
