Duties
- Conducts risk and vulnerability assessments of installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs.
- Participates in assessments of breaches of security to determine their impact on system operations and the confidentiality, integrity, and reliability of the information stored and manipulated within the system.
- Drafts updates to procedures such as the organization's contingency or disaster recovery plans to respond to new security requirements or changes in the IT architecture; and presents updated plans to the IT security manager for review and approval.
- Coordinates development work with higher echelon information security organizations, end-users within and outside the Bureau and Department, and with other IT Specialists within the Bureau IT organization.

Qualifications

Applicants applying for the GS-13 grade level must meet the following requirements:
Have IT-related experience demonstrating EACH of the four competencies AND specialized experience listed below:
- Attention to Detail - Develops systems security contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures to ensure preservation of data and the integrity of that data.
- Customer Service - Coordinates development work with higher echelon information security organizations, end-users.
- Oral Communication - Promotes awareness of security issues among management and end-users and ensures that sound security principles are reflected in organizations' visions and goals.
- Problem Solving - Assesses breaches of security to determine their impact on system operations and the confidentiality, integrity, and reliability of the information stored and manipulated within the system.
AND Have at least 1 full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying Specialized Experience Must Demonstrate The Following
- Experience conducting system audits, security evaluations, and reviews of IT security programs to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Experience developing and implementing programs to ensure that systems, network, and data users are aware of, understand, and adhere to systems security policies and procedures.
- Experience developing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems.
NOTE: In order to qualify for this position, your experience MUST be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
