The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Industrial Hygienist, GS-0690-11, to work under the 301st Fighter Wing, located at Ft. Worth Joint Reserve Base (JRB), TX.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional industrial hygiene services and act as a consultant to management.
This mission-critical position offers the flexibility to hire like the private sector with a direct stream-lined application and expedited hiring process due to a severe shortage of candidates or critical hiring needs. This hiring approach is called Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) which allows the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) to hire applicants from the general public with no prior federal civilian or Veteran status.

Annual Salary Range is $78,820 - $102,463 based on experience.

- Schedules and performs health risk assessment related activities Bioenvironmental Engineering /Public Health, ensuring that Bioenvironmental Engineering/Public Health complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. As part of Bioenvironmental Engineering (BEE), the individual in this position conducts health risk assessments to include: periodic surveys and investigations of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures, such as chemical hoods, changes in work process, or the use of new materials, and documentation of the findings.
- As a member of the BE/PH office, may be required to assist with public health activities.
Establishes and maintains liaison with medical treatment facilities and local public health agencies to ensure an integrated public health program. Advises on public health issues, manning, and training. Prepares drafts of regulations and operating instructions for review/approval, acquires technical bulletins, and presents training to support public health. ---Evaluates public health programs and recommends changes in policies and procedures. Supports Reserve component units to determine status of programs, including effectiveness and compliance with standards as well as providing training to Public Health traditional reservists.
- Implements an occupational health program for physical screening of employees exposed to particular toxic/biological materials or physical hazards. Establishes procedures to identify personnel requiring pre-placement, periodic and termination medical examination. Participates in formulating occupational health examination requirements for workers at risk from hazardous exposures. Monitors the occupational health examination requirements for workers at risk from hazardous exposures.
- Keeps informed on the latest USAF, OSHA, ACGIH, ANSI, and EPA regulations or standards. Advances in industrial hygiene and public health by reading professional literature, notices of proposed rulemaking, scientific journals; periodicals, professional reference books, or by attending workshops, conferences or classes etc. Distributes pertinent information to appropriate personnel within the function and agencies base-wide. Attends management-level committee meetings. May chair or host technical committee meetings, or other special functions as required.
- Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and EEO and diversity objectives. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Explains performance expectations to employees and provides regular feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments. Appraises subordinate workers performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques.
Recruitment Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (ksa)
- Professional knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, principles, practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of related scientific disciplines, e. g., toxicology, physiology, and biochemistry.
- Knowledge of applicable Air Force, OSHA EPA, State and Local directives.
- Skill in the use, calibration, and maintenance of industrial hygiene equipment.
- Ability to identify, evaluate and control occupational health hazards found in a variety of industrial settings.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to schedule and prioritize numerous projects to meet deadlines.
- Ability to identify problems and develop innovative solutions.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
- Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
