The California Lottery is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise headquartered in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the state’s general fund. Job Description and Duties:
The California State Lottery (Lottery) is looking for a talented Information Technology Manager I (ITM I) to execute the role of Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer (CISO). The CISO is responsible for providing oversight and participates in the planning, developing, and managing efforts of Information Security and Data Privacy duties for the Lottery.
This position is headquartered at the Sacramento HQ and is eligible for either a remote-based or office-based telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as needed. Travel expense to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires employee residence in California per California Government Code Section 14200 which states: “telecommuting means the partial or total substitution of computers or telecommunication technologies, or both, for the commute to work by employees residing in California.

Working Conditions:
- Schedule: 8:00AM to 5:00PM PST (After hours may be needed to ensure the delivery of project related duties for the California State Lottery).
- Minimal: On demand travel may be required to facilitate / participate in project related activities.
- Other: The Incumbent must maintain an expert level understanding of best practices related to Information Security and Privacy. The incumbent will work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, and mission critical deliverables.

- Describe a situation in which you identified a problem and evaluated the alternatives to make a recommendation or decision. What were the circumstances that led up to the situation? What steps did you take to generate and evaluate alternatives? What assumptions and constraints did you have? What was the outcome?
- Describe your experience in managing the development and implementation of Information Privacy & Security policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
- The Lottery has recently experienced a data breach that compromised sensitive customer information. How would you work with your team to investigate the incident, identify the root cause, and take steps to prevent similar breaches from occurring in the future?
- The Chief Information Security Officer is responsible for collaborating with other departments and stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to security. How would you approach fostering effective cross-functional relationships and promoting a culture of security throughout the Lottery?
- Tell us about a time, if any, you experienced reluctance on the part of some members of higher management with regard to a security or regulatory issue. How did you/would go about gaining support for your expert opinions, who did you speak with, and what was the outcome? How do you approach balancing security with the needs of the business and its users? How do you integrate security into the organization’s overall business strategy?
- Describe your approach in developing, inspiring, and managing a team to ensure they can meet current / future workload and needs of your stakeholders.
