As Technology Counsel, you will be the primary legal partner for Bazaarvoice’s product and engineering teams globally. This position is for a highly-organized team player with a sophisticated understanding of the technical aspects of SaaS products, social media platforms, digital commerce, security, data science and ML/AI, as well as legal expertise in privacy, software licensing, intermediary liability, and intellectual property protection. As Technology counsel you will collaborate closely with the product and engineering teams in regards to ongoing legal and regulatory compliance, as well as on new product and feature development to ensure Bazaarvoice can innovate rapidly while remaining compliant and minimizing risk exposure. To be successful on our team, collaboration and engagement is key. You’re comfortable working with quick turnaround times and have the ability to explain legal concepts applicable to technology.
- Austin, TX based candidates preferred but remote, US based candidates will be considered.
What You'll Be Doing
- Legal Counsel: Provide strategic legal advice on all technology-related matters, including software development, contracts, cloud computing, intellectual property, data privacy, and open-source licensing.
- Contract Drafting and Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of technology-related agreements, including SaaS, vendor, and partnership agreements, ensuring they align with company policies and objectives.
- Intellectual Property: Advise on the protection and enforcement of the company’s intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
- Data Privacy and Security: Ensure compliance with data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and cybersecurity regulations, working closely with the IT, Security, Privacy and compliance teams to mitigate risks.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with relevant technology laws and regulations, providing guidance to ensure the company’s operations and products comply with applicable legal standards.
- Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks related to technology projects and initiatives, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, including IT, security, product development, engineering, sales, and business development, to provide legal support on technology-driven projects.
- Policy Development: Assist in the development, implementation and updating of company policies related to technology, data privacy, artificial intelligence, open-source licensing, and intellectual property.
- Training and Education: Provide training to employees on relevant legal topics, including technology contracts, intellectual property protection, and data privacy.
Who You Are
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in at least one state.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with significant experience in technology law, either in-house or at a law firm.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property law, data privacy, cybersecurity, and software licensing.
- Experience negotiating complex technology contracts and agreements.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

We also take geography into consideration when we can but are not able to accommodate every location when determining our ranges. These considerations mean that compensation can vary. That said, we expect the base salary for this position to be in the range to be as listed above and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. This role will also be eligible for additional compensation incentives including an annual bonus and other great benefits.
