Position Focus
Reporting to the University Chief Information Officer, with secondary reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences (FAS) and the Dean of the School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS), this position provides strategic guidance and operational support for the effective use of Information Technology in FAS and SEAS. The position has secondary responsibilities for supporting the IT needs of Yale College, the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, the Jackson School of Global Affairs, and the MacMillan Center.
Under the direction of leadership in the respective academic divisions and the CIO, the Associate CIO develops and coordinates relevant information services for the academic divisions. In addition, the Associate CIO facilitates the development of technology-related policy, procedures, and standards. The Associate CIO works with colleagues to ensure that applications, technology, and policies are aligned with research, educational, and administrative needs and are used as a unifying and transformative tool in support of academic divisional goals.
The position will assure appropriate representation and advocacy of academic needs in central planning, technology prioritization, policies, and service design, as well as assist to align resources from each of the IT teams in daily delivery. Success will require a keen understanding of the unique challenges and culture of a research-intensive academic environment, and effective coordination in a decentralized information technology support structure.
Essential Duties
- Lead the development and implementation of research computing and IT strategies, policies, and procedures in alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives.2. Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to staff. Cultivate and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.3. Collaborate with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to establish and maintain robust security measures and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.4. Establish and maintain governance processes, policies, and standards to ensure internal and external regulations compliance.5. Responsible for effective workforce planning. Ensures the organization has the right people with the right skills to meet the business objectives. Assess the organization’s current workforce and determine its future staffing needs based on business objectives, growth plans, market trends, and technical advancements.6. Ensure the organization’s systems are secure, reliable, efficient, and following regulations and standards.7. Responsible for developing, implementing, and stewardship of the capital and operations budget.8. Remain current on emerging technologies and trends; evaluate their potential impact on the organization.9. Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical University senior leadership stakeholders and be able to make sound decisions that align with the overall technology strategies and plans.10. Manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring the organization always moves forward and improves.
Required Education And Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 12 years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Eight years of experience at the managerial level.

Proven ability to develop and execute short and long plans for IT initiative and services with the over all goals of the organization.

Well-developed fiscal management skills. Solid understanding of budget development and implementation, financial planning, and management to ensure projects and service are within budget.

Proven ability to manage change within the organization to include implementing new processes, procedures, and technologies.
