Position Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for the onsite build, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of network hardware and software. Researches, analyzes, and implements software patches or hardware changes to fix any network deficiencies. Supports the IT and Informatics teams. Evaluates new products and services. This role will require availability and response after normal working hours (break/fix, upgrades and maintenance). Position does include On-Call responsibilities.
Participates in network planning, network architecture design and engineering. Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution, and assists in the development and documentation of technical standards and interface applications. Performs system tuning and makes recommendations for improvement. Responsible for designing, installing, and troubleshooting network systems including wireless. Performs capacity and resource planning, assessing network risks and contingency planning.
Maintains all user documentation for network devices, including in depth network diagrams. Supports the development, creation, and maintenance of current network device configurations, circuit information and operations network diagrams for network. Develops process to inventory all network equipment; performs periodic inventory audits and reviews. Mentors new team members to ensure a smooth transition from clinical networking environment to daily corporate environment and may participate in providing formal training. Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Accountabilities
- Establishes and maintains network performance.

- Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration and directing system installation.
- Knowledge and experience with Cisco product line
- Defines, documents, and enforces system, HIPPA and PCI standards.
- Maximizes performance by scheduling upgrades.
- Configures switches, firewalls, wireless, and routers.
- Collaborates with third party vendors and support on network optimization.
- Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies and defining and monitoring access.
- Works with third party resources to do pen testing, internal and external then make plans for remediation for issues found.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional groups.
- Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
- Maintains and assists with any IT related tasks, tickets, projects overall, even if not specifically job title related
Minimum Qualifications
- Network knowledge
- Network design and implementation
- Network troubleshooting
- Both local VPN and Site to Site VPN configuration knowledge
- Problem solving and analytical skills
- Time-management skills
- Strong documentation skills
- LAN knowledge
- Network hardware configuration
- Network performance tuning
- End User Support
- Knowledge of Print Management, DNS, DHCP and Domain Controller Server roles and functionalities
- Understanding of Enterprise IT and Healthcare IT roles preferred
- Knowledge of Cerner EHR is a plus
- BA in computer science, information technology, engineering, with physical skills used
- Experience in network administration
- A technical school graduate and/or voluntary certification may also be accepted
