General Summary:
Our client, an American container shipping company, is seeking an Executive Vice President. The Executive Vice President would be responsible for constructing and implementing an effective stakeholder engagement strategy for our client. Own interactions and liaise with U.S. policymakers and regulators and understand the regulatory, legislative, and broader public policy trends at the federal and state level that impact our business. Ensures our client is a trusted partner to the U.S. government for ocean transportation and in-country logistics. This position will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee operations activities in their Government Trade, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective processes to meet the current and future needs of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for topline performance of Government Trade contracts and compliance requirements, including strategic plans and operational direction, complete with reviews and controls to fulfill company trade requirements timely and economically.
- Create and implement a 3-to-5-year trade growth strategy and seek ways to promote views, priorities, and concerns of the company in non-government policy forums such as think tanks and technical organizations such as the Transportation Research Board.
- Maintain competitive rate and pricing strategies with all government trade contracts through fluctuating markets.
- Guide and Direct government trade policy, advocacy strategies and oversee their execution in partnership with Government Relations team.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders while managing the company’s trade with the U.S. Government, primarily the Department of Defense.
- Keep a strong pulse on future regulatory and policy outlook (Federal, State, Country), and the context of these developments to our client’s business and industry.
- Engage Congress and Administration towards positions favorable to our client (directly or through US Maritime Trade Association) .
- Ensure the Cargo Preference laws, and MSP are maintained and improved where possible through relationships with Congress, Marad, DoT, FMC, Customs and DoD.
- Oversee trade, service, and operations management of Guam.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional Commercial experiences such as but limited to sales, price management, customer experience, and sourcing.
- Strategic thinker, enjoy working in a collaborative, high performance, nimble organization, and have a demonstrated ability to connect advocacy to strategic positioning of private foreign owned company, as well as a demonstrated ability to take initiative and to lead.
- A passion for supply chain and a desire to advance the industry through the development of sound policies.
- Entrepreneurial style, visionary, and strategic thinker.
- Possesses influencing and negotiating skills to reach agreements and build consensus among parties with sometimes disparate or conflicting positions.
- Interpersonal and communication skills commensurate with an executive
- Strong business acumen, managing diverse relationships and cultures while maintaining presence and poise. Tough-minded when necessary.
- University Degree, with an Advanced Degree Preferred, and 7-10 years of Commercial Sales and/or Customer Service experience
- 10-15 years of government relations and/or lobbying or congressional experience.
- Strong network with government agencies (eg. DOD, DOT, and DOS)
