The IT Security Analyst is responsible for protecting an organization’s information systems and networks by ensuring their security, integrity, and confidentiality. The role includes monitoring and analyzing potential security threats, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing defensive measures to safeguard sensitive data. The IT Security Analyst works closely with other IT team members, management, and external partners to develop, implement, and enforce security policies and best practices.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Monitor network traffic for unusual activity, security breaches, or unauthorized access.
- Respond to security incidents, investigate the root cause, and escalate issues as needed.
- Analyze security events and logs to detect patterns, identify vulnerabilities, and prevent future breaches.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities.
- Perform vulnerability scans and penetration tests to assess the organization’s security posture.
- Assist in the remediation of security weaknesses by working with system administrators and network engineers.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of security policies, procedures, and standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and industry security standards (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR, NIST).
- Stay updated on the latest security regulations, tools, and trends to keep the organization secure and compliant.
- Manage and configure user access controls, permissions, and authentication mechanisms.
- Protect sensitive data by implementing encryption and data masking techniques.
- Ensure secure transmission and storage of data across systems and networks.
- Maintain awareness of emerging cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities through research and industry networking.
- Provide training and awareness programs to employees on cybersecurity risks and best practices.
- Proactively improve defense mechanisms by integrating threat intelligence into security operations.
- Configure and manage security tools such as firewalls, antivirus software, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint security solutions.
- Collaborate with IT teams to deploy and maintain security tools and technologies effectively.
Qualifications And Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science , Information Security, or related field
- 2-4 years of experience in IT security or a related role
- Knowledge of security tools and techniques such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, EDR, and encryption
- Strong understanding of network protocols, application security, and operating systems
- Familiarity with common security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO, COBIT).
- Experience with risk management, vulnerability assessments, and incident response.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Professional certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CompTIA Security+, or similar.
- Experience with cloud security and hybrid IT environments
- Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks
