Position Summary
Under limited supervision, provides support to departments and ensures systems administration and network is effectively and efficiently operating for end users.
The work is normally reviewed upon completion to ensure compliance with general organization/ department goals, policies and procedures. Major work activities are covered by procedures or guidelines permitting flexibility in selecting methods to utilize and procedures to follow, determination of work priorities, and the planning and coordination of projects.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintains network security and performance.
- Establishes workable directory structure, network security and disk space allocation.
- Sets up user accounts according to established policies, procedures and restrictions.
- Troubleshoots network problems, hardware and software related; resolves network connectivity issues.
- Tracks all problems or issues through resolution.
- Sets up new phone lines, modems, controllers and terminals as needed.
- Enhances network by assessing new software and hardware products that would increase network performance and expand network services.
- Implements disaster recovery plans, runs system backups, and disaster recovery operations.
- Develops procedural documentation or policies as needed; trains end users on systems and equipment.
- Prepares reports and makes recommendation to ensure the optimum efficiency of equipment and systems in accordance with departmental needs.
- Maintains inventory of equipment, materials, systems, and applications.
- Keeps abreast of new technologies and principles by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.

- Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of information systems, technologies, and applications.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft NT, telecommunications hardware, and other applications.
- Knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) and/ or Wide Area (WAN) hardware and software.
- Knowledge of computer languages, mainframe languages, and databases.
- Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
- Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.
- Skill in system troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Skill in programming in Visual Basic, COBOL, HTML languages.
- Skill in reviewing and analyzing complex technical manuals or journals.
- Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and three years' work experience in system administration, computer operations, system networks, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements
- Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
- May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
- If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
- Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
