Job Summary
The Manager of IT Systems will manage the activities and personnel of the MBTA Server Team to ensure our users receive the highest level of IT support and services. This position is responsible for the design and maintenance of Microsoft Windows and HP UX /Linux server environments and enterprise-wide storage devices including high availability, data replication, disaster recovery, fail over and redundancy wherever possible. Performs regular system and data analysis and proactive system maintenance and life cycle management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage a team of engineers and administrators who are responsible for maintaining our existing systems while continuing to plan for future growth
- Responsible for managing systems in a Hybrid multi-Cloud environment consisting of 3 Datacenters, AWS, and Azure
- Responsible for managing enterprise-wide server and storage backups for daily operations
- Responsible for managing and supporting hybrid email environment including M365, On-Premises Exchange email servers, archiving software, Proofpoint filtering and journaling software
- Responsible for managing multiple Active Directory forests and sub-domains
- Monitor the MBTA's overall disk space, anticipate its growth needs and be prepared to expand the environment when necessary
- Collaborate with other IT organizations within the MBTA to provide advice on their purchases and installations as well as keep lines of communication open so that neither group experiences any unwanted surprises
- Manage software licenses to ensure compliance with software license agreements
- Drive constant improvement and efficiencies in all areas of the environment.
- Coordinate with the Applications Teams to supply necessary resources in terms of servers and manpower when developing new systems or upgrading existing one
- Work with teams on patch management to ensure the least amount of down time for our end users
- Work with the Information Security Group to ensure all necessary security requirements are met
- Support all network printers in a print server environment
- Act as escalation team (Level 3) for the Help Desk and Desktop Teams
- Chair regular and special meetings of departmental technical coordinators
- Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or coworker in a professional and courteous manner
- Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or a related field
- Five (5) years of experience working with a highly complex server environment, PC, local area networks and/or wide area networks
- One (1) years of experience in a supervisory, managerial, and/or leadership capacity
- Excellent English-based written and verbal communications skills
- Knowledge of: AWS, Azure, Active Directory, storage area networks, virtual server, cluster environments, and Windows Operating Systems (2012 thru 2022).
- Have excellent customer service skills
- The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience
- Ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization
- The ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce
Substitutions Include
- A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor’s degree requirement.
- An associate degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor’s degree requirement.
- A master’s degree in a related subject substitute for two (2) years of general experience.
- A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or a related field
- Microsoft certification
- EMC certification
- Experience in Service Now and DR\Business Continuity
