What You Will Do
As a Privacy Compliance Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in Klarna’s Privacy Team, ensuring that our data protection practices meet the highest standards. This role, based in Columbus or New York, supports Klarna’s compliance within the U.S. market, while collaborating with our global teams. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the administration of Klarna's Privacy Program, focusing on U.S. privacy laws like CCPA and other state regulations.
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of an AI oversight and governance program to promote ethical AI use within Klarna.
- Conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and offering recommendations to reduce privacy risks, particularly for AI-driven processes.
- Managing external communications with U.S. Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) and aiding in regulatory responses.
- Advising business units on privacy matters to ensure new products and services, especially those involving AI, comply with privacy standards.
- Developing and delivering privacy training, including AI ethics modules, for U.S.-based teams.
- Contributing to the Personal Data Registry to document data processing activities accurately.
- Participating in privacy compliance reviews and enhancing Klarna’s global privacy framework alongside the global Privacy Team.
- Potentially serving as a Data Protection Officer (DPO) for specific entities or jurisdictions within Klarna's Group DPO structure, providing tailored oversight and compliance expertise.
Who You Are
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in privacy compliance, risk management, or a related field, focusing on U.S. regulations.
- Strong understanding of CCPA and other U.S. state privacy laws, with demonstrated experience in privacy controls.
- Proven experience contributing to AI oversight and governance initiatives.
- Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail, capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex privacy concepts clearly.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP/US) and knowledge of AI ethics are a plus.
- Experience or qualification as a DPO under GDPR or similar frameworks is beneficial.
- Background in fast-paced, dynamic environments, ideally within the financial sector.

Salary range - $137,000- $150,000
In addition to the posted salary range, there are additional components to Klarna’s compensation package.
