The Cybersecurity Department is responsible for protecting the systems and information used to create the legislation that underwrites our democracy. We create a resilient cybersecurity operation by pro-actively identifying, protecting, detecting, reacting, and recovering (IPDRR) the US Senate enterprise. We combine people, processes, and technology into a state of the art, continuous risk-reduction practice that is flexible, innovative, and effective.

Role Overview

As part of the SAA's dedicated cybersecurity team, step into a vital role that enhances our cybersecurity posture. You will join the Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence Cell in our Threat Intelligence Branch, where your experience will contribute significantly to a team known for its technical proficiency, research, analytic rigor, customer focus, and responsiveness. Your responsibilities will center on researching adversary capabilities and intent to target the Senate network, and support actual cybersecurity incidents, addressing cybersecurity concerns, and fortifying our defenses against diverse cyber threats on a 24/7 basis. In this role, you will also provide support to other team members across the Cybersecurity Department.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cybersecurity Specialist, your role is crucial in protecting our organization's digital assets and supporting our cybersecurity initiatives. Your key responsibilities include:

Cyber Defense: Use cyber threat intelligence tools to identify and analyze known or emerging threats that may impact the network.
Analysis and Support: Research and analyze data/information from one or more sources to identify threats, respond to requests for information from customers, and work with operations personnel to support proactive cyber activities.
Communication and Collaboration: Report threats and vulnerabilities across teams to proactively protect systems, networks and customers. Ensure clear communication with stakeholders to support their requests.

Key Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties

Provides functional and/or technical skills for the assigned cybersecurity unit. Supports the unit’s work effort as required in preparing materials for collaborating with other sections, divisions, departments, and vendors to gather and disseminate information. Contributes to the unit’s work effort as required in preparing analysis and materials for providing expert level support in the assigned area of cybersecurity to SAA IT security branch staff, other SAA technical staff, SAA procurement staff, and other division or departments; and for identifying and resolving critical and complex issues in the assigned unit. Supports the unit’s work effort as directed in providing leadership to the unit’s project teams and contractors. Work includes helping to develop plans, assignments, and coordination of work efforts. Supports the unit’s work effort to develop governing policies, standards, and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required Education

High School Diploma, GED.

Required Work Experience

Three to five years of progressively responsible experience within a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)-type environment.

Analytical Abilities: Experience as an intelligence analyst with the ability to evaluate, analyze, and synthesize large quantities of data (which may be fragmented and contradictory) into high quality, fused targeting/intelligence products.
Cybersecurity Techniques: Knowledge of wireless technologies, ways in which threat actors use the Internet, basic structure of a network, and organizational hierarchy and decision-making processes.

Communication: Ability to think critically and communicate complex information, concepts, or ideas in a confident and well-organized manner through verbal, written, and/or visual means

Working Conditions

Sedentary.
To meet the needs of the US Senate, the person in this position will be required to work extended hours, outside normal business hours, which includes but may not be limited to holidays and weekends, as necessary.
To meet the needs of the US Senate, the person in this position will be required to be on call, or report on-site on a rotation, as needed by SAA.

Security Clearance

This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government security clearance.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens in order for the SAA to submit your application for a security clearance.
