Digital Charter is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of re-architecting legacy systems, transitioning them into cloud-native environments, and redesigning applications for efficient deployment on modern platforms such as Kubernetes. The role involves leading multi-cloud development efforts, providing essential training to operations staff, supporting compliance and security assessments, and implementing complex networking configurations across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

This opportunity is full-time and is fully remote. Ideally, the candidate resides near Dayton, OH.

Key Responsibilities:

System Re-Architecture & Cloud Transition:

Re-architect multi-million-dollar legacy systems to cloud-native environments
Redesign and deploy Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) applications on Kubernetes

Multi-Cloud Infrastructure & Processes:

Establish infrastructure and processes to facilitate seamless multi-cloud development
Design and implement multi-cloud networking configurations for AWS, Azure, and GCP

Training & Development:

Provide training on Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) to operations staff for maintaining cross-domain deployments

Compliance & Security:

Support Authorization to Operate (ATO) assessments for custom systems across various government agencies
Conduct automated vulnerability assessments and generate reports

Automation & DevOps:

Implement CI/CD pipelines for automating deployments and testing
Develop custom Terraform modules for resource standardization
Improve system observability via centralized log aggregation and processing
Define automated analysis of resource metric variances and alert triggers

Cloud Services & Solutions:

Architect high-availability cloud networks on AWS, Azure, and GCP

Microservices & Containers:

Design and implement microservices and containerized applications deployed on Kubernetes
Automate secrets management, serverless functions, and scalable solutions

Required Skills/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
Required Certifications: CompTIA Security+
Extensive experience as a Systems Engineer and Lead Systems Engineer
Proven experience in multi-cloud environments including AWS, Azure, and GCP
Expertise in DevSecOps, automation, and cloud services
Expertise in DevOps automation tools: Ansible, GitLab CI, HashiCorp Packer, Terraform, Helm, Kubernetes
Familiarity with cloud services: AWS EC2, S3, VPC, Lambda, RDS, SNS, SQS, CloudWatch, Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)
Proficient with software: HAProxy, Nexus Repository OSS, SonarQube
Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
Excellent communication and technical writing abilities
Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and best practices
Strategic planning and roadmap development skills
Bonus: having React, JAVA, and/or Python knowledge
Preferred Certifications: AWS Solutions Architect Associate, HashiCorp Terraform Associate
