Midsize Plastics Manufacturer 1988-2014
- Developed a custom MRP scheduling application for the plastics industry, running in xBASE (dBASE/Foxpro/Clipper) on a Novell network. Over 20 years, this system was modernized by migrating to DOSEMU on Linux, with Samba and ssh terminal access. Integrated Julian date calculations for accuracy down to the minute. Currently working on SQL connectivity.

- Wrote extensive modifications and extensions to accounting applications for multiple clients running SBT Accounting/ACCPAC/Sage and other ERP systems, and managed the network infrastructure and integration with other systems and platforms

Developed a secure transaction transfer application for Citigroup that sent ~US$1 billion per day of scheduled hourly inbound Federal Reserve wire transfers and ATM transactions from Chicago to New York. Used Connect : Direct, an industry-specific application with its own scripting language, along with several command line tricks on a Windows server. This connected to the remote MVS system and conditionally launched procedures. Installed and configured Nagios monitoring of these and other critical systems

Ran a department of 9 developers and technicians responsible for development, maintenance and uptime of a large daily business news website serving 70,000 readers worldwide.
Managed servers, firewalls, routers, global server load balancers across two continents, and 70 client workstations and file/print services. Migrated most server and back end functions to a Linux architecture, saving thousands of dollars in licensing fees when new or upgraded applications were needed.
Accomplishments :
Slashed operating costs by moving critical outsourced services to Linux/GPL software. Moved server functions from Shanghai, China and Santa Clara, CA to office space in Chicago for hands-on and cheaper hosting and administration.
Installed web and mail proxy servers in front of a highly visible public website to increase security and access time.
Coordinated deployment of globally load-balanced (GSLB) servers in three worldwide locations to ensure website uptime and fast access.
