The Sr. Network Security Engineer provides engineering and operational support for corporate infrastructure security systems. The position requires advanced-level performance as a Subject Matter Expert for Cisco-based firewall and VPN technologies, the ability to analyze firewall logs, scrutinize network traffic, and troubleshoot escalated incidents and service requests. The Sr. Security Engineer researches and resolves security issues and vulnerabilities. The engineer will also conduct routine and as needed user and network activity audits. The position requires the engineer act as Tier 3 level escalation point for junior engineers and analysts, mentoring where needed.
Minimum Requirements
- 5-7 years of Cisco security experience
- 3-5 years of Cisco networking experience
- 3+ years experience deploying and managing deploying Cisco security solutions
- 3+ years of experience identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities
- 3+ years of experience performing investigations
- Excellent understanding of TCP/IP protocols, subnetting, routing, and switching
- Excellent understanding of Cisco firewall, IDS/IPS, and VPN technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to troubleshoot security problems independently
- Ability to properly handle confidential and sensitive information
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION PREFERENCES
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems or comparable experience
- Cisco professional certification(s) required (eg. CCNP, CCNP Security)
- CISSP certification preferred
Essential Job Functions
- Implement robust security architectures using Cisco security technologies (e.g., Cisco ASA, Firepower, ISE, Umbrella, XDR).
- Integrate security solutions into existing network environments using routing technologies (eg. OSPF, BGP)
- Manage the configuration of Cisco security devices and software, ensuring they are correctly set up and maintained.
- Continuously monitor network traffic for suspicious activity using tools like Cisco Stealthwatch, XDR, and Firepower Management Center.
- Regularly assess and tune security devices for optimal performance and efficiency.
- Ensure all Cisco security solutions are up-to-date with the latest patches and updates.
- Maintain detailed documentation of the security infrastructure and configurations
- Coordinate with Cisco and other third-party vendors for support, product updates, and new implementations.
- Work closely with other IT teams, such as network engineering, systems administration, and application development, to ensure cohesive security measures.
- Evaluate new security technologies and solutions through proof-of-concept testing and analysis.
- Conduct thorough investigations to determine the root cause of security incidents and breaches.
- Lead and mentoring junior network security engineers and other IT staff.
- Manage security projects from conception through completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget and scope.
