Job Summary
This position is located in the Office of Information Technology Division (IT), of the Office of Unified Communications (OUC). The IT Division is responsible for managing all Public Safety Communications for the District of Columbia including the facilitating the design, operations, maintenance, monitoring, and support of infrastructure, security, and network devices and systems, security software, HVAC, UPS, and Radio Technology.
Duties And Responsibilities
The Information Technology Specialist will administer all hardware, software, communications, interfaces, reports, configuration and performs routine daily operational tasks for remedial and preventative maintenance for network systems and hardware. He/she will be responsible for server patching and windows updates, workstation patches and maintenance, system failover response, troubleshooting, and notifications, 911/311 Audio and Video Reconstruction. Database changes and configuration for software, IT asset database update and asset management, IT Ticketing (Incidents, Problems, Change Requests), VMware System Admin, Network monitoring systems configuration and maintenance.
The incumbent will also support any Tier 1 escalated issues and work closely with all OUC IT groups to guide and monitor vendor applications development, integration and testing. He/she will serve as the troubleshooter for the systems and perform diagnostics on hardware that includes immediate swap out of defective hardware components to minimize downtime. The IT Specialist will serve as the point of contact for hardware, software, communications, interfaces, reports, configuration and support procedures and problems and work with users to test and debug applications.
Qualifications And Education
Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management
or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

Experience Must Be IT Related; The Experience May Be Demonstrated By Paid Or Unpaid Experience And/or Completion Of Specific, Intensive Training (for Example, IT Certification), As Appropriate. For All Positions Individuals Must Have IT-related Experience Demonstrating Each Of The Four Competencies Listed Below

To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
Working Conditions/Environment
The work involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices and training rooms. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Position Designation: This position has been designated as security sensitive, therefore the incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations. Suitability and as such, incumbents of this position shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable. This position is designated as Emergency. The incumbent may be required to either report to work, stay at work or telecommute when the government is closed, when employees are dismissed early, when there is a declared emergency or during a period of non-emergency as the duties performed by this position are critical to continuity of government operations.
Residency Preference: Applicants claiming "Residency Preference” will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
Residency Requirement Statement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the duration of the appointment.
