Description
The primary focus of someone working in a Systems Engineer position is ensuring that a company’s employees can use software and hardware to complete their daily tasks. Common Desktop Support job duties include:
Responsibilities
- Apply ITIL guiding principles to all IT service related responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to electronic tickets, phone calls and verbal requests from internal and external clients for both trouble and task-oriented issues, and provide clearly written documentation regarding the problem, task, and resolution
- Maintain/install end user software and hardware: Troubleshoot/resolve issues in a timely manner on Laptops/Desktops/Thin clients/peripheral devices/MS Windows OS/MS Office/ Local and web-based applications and update clients on the status of their requests.
- Gather and analyze system data (configurations, settings and permissions) to diagnose problems with computer systems
- Create logon credentials via Active Directory Users and Computers and set appropriate Security Group membership based on least privilege access
- Attend meetings both locally, and via teleconference. Meet with local vendors and technicians. Maintain asset tracking software with up-to-date data
- Create and collaborate on documentation pertaining to projects, tasks and other business needs
- Other IT Related Support: Routers and switches, AV equipment, Printers, Security Systems and Proximity key card systems/Cable management. Maintain a clean and orderly IT storage area
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree; preferably in Information Technology
- 1-3 years’ experience in a help desk/IT support role
- Certifications such as A+/Network+/Microsoft are preferred but not required
- Experience in the set-up, configuration, and use of computer hardware and software, and networking components.
- Ability to communicate technical issues to technical and non-technical employees
- Ability to troubleshoot and support server operating systems (Windows, Linux, Docker, ProxMox, KVM)
- Self-motivated and willing to learn, as well as always find the solution
- Basic understanding of Cloud Solutions & Cloud Computing
- Knowledge of wireless networks, set up maintenance and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of video conference systems, VOIP phones, smartphones (iOS & Android) and other common technology related devices and software
- Experience providing remote support via phone and remote control applications desired
Physical Requirements
- The ability to sit at a desk up to 80% of the time
- The ability to stand and walk up to 20% of the time
- The ability to be confined in a small area, such as a cubicle
- The ability to operate phones and computers
- The ability to travel 25% of the time
