The Job/What You'll Do:
Reporting to the senior leadership team, the Chief Technology Officer “CTO” will be a commercial leader with technical know-how, charged with the evolution, maintenance and security of AssetMark’s enterprise digital strategy, technology platforms, product development, data insights and business systems. The ideal candidate will excel in a dynamic environment, be ready to roll up their sleeves, have strong multitasking abilities, and embrace the challenge of leveraging diverse skill sets in AssetMark’s fast-paced, agile, and rapidly growing organization.
This position will work closely with the CEO and other executive leaders to influence, build, and execute AssetMark’s technology, digital, data management, and software development strategy to enhance their value proposition and drive excellence. The CTO is also responsible for driving organizational scale and excellence, and for spearheading new product offerings across the organization. This will entail strategic, operational, and cultural transformation.
The CTO will use ongoing internal and client feedback to set a vision and deliver, as well as continuously improve this experience and reduce friction. They will be forward-looking, continuously focused on the next iteration of the digital and technology strategy, including the use of AI and personalization to enrich the experience at scale. This leader will be a key member of AssetMark’s executive leadership team and play an integral role in designing and executing the business’ future vision.
The CTO will have direct oversight of Technology Infrastructure, Cyber Security, Engineering – software & data with related disciplines, Product Development and Maintenance, Data Science & Business Intelligence, PMO, Business Process Analysis, Governance, and other related Areas.
This is a full-time position in our Concord, CA office with a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a business partner to the CEO and business leaders in establishing an ROI-driven long and short-term technology, product, and data roadmap
- Establish, develop, and build the foundation for processes and structure throughout the organization to deliver value-added results to internal business partners and clients
- Partner closely with Business Unit Leaders to ensure the alignment of technology, product, and data initiatives to the company's quarterly and annual goals and priorities
- Build and maintain trust-based relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders ensuring that their business priorities, concerns, and needs are addressed
- Manage capital investments and expenses aggressively to ensure optimal ROI and actively seek out innovative approaches to enhance efficiency and effectiveness (within AssetMark’s technology tools and organization structure)
- Champion the recruitment, retention, and professional development of high-caliber employees and build a winning culture that attracts and motivates top talent to work together and achieve success
- Ensure open and candid communication of the capabilities and challenges within the technology, product, and data organization to the CEO and business leaders
- Collaborate with business leaders to streamline operations, enhance scalability, and drive efficiencies through improved workflows, business process analysis and technology solutions
- Establish a continuous improvement and experimentation operating model and culture, including a “digital flywheel” to test, learn, and scale
- Serve as an industry leader with external stakeholders including regulatory agencies, industry forums, and competitors including new disruptive platforms
- Need to develop a strategy to reconcile legacy tech to future tech platform
- Partner with Marketing to develop a digital lead-generation program
- Digital strategy to drive improved commercial results, including more prospects/visitors to AssetMark sites, better share of wallet, improved conversion of prospects to clients, etc.
- Views on competitors’ digital platforms, and how AssetMark’s strategy compares; developing and enhancing client experience from our digital platform
Qualifications & Experience:
The CTO is a highly visible role that will require deep business knowledge, broad connections across all businesses and technology as needed, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and regulatory knowledge.
This individual must have a high IQ and EQ in order to be viewed as a strategic partner by their respective business peers and across the AssetMark Executive Team. The capabilities and experiences most critical to success in this role are:
- A leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, able to influence change at all levels of the organization, and deliver globally to achieve results
- A leader with deep wealth management experience will be key
- 15+ years of experience, including 10+ years' of managerial experience directly managing high-performing technology teams with demonstrable and measurable results
- Demonstrated experience as a digital product manager with deep expertise in mobile platforms and industry-leading technology; skilled in leveraging cutting-edge innovations to deliver exceptional digital solutions and drive market success at acceptable cost levels
- Demonstrated experience mitigating architecture and delivery risks for investments in varying ranges
- Experience developing technology talent; convincing technical leaders to value people development; growing people to senior levels
- Demonstrated experience leading with influence instead of positional authority, including the ability to hold space with C-level executives
- Prior experience delivering SaaS services, cloud- and software-based products, collaborating with Sales to close deals and support external customers’ adoption of our solutions
- Demonstrated experience building a productive offshore delivery model to meet quality and cost targets
- Demonstrated experience leading through mergers and acquisitions and managing vendor relationships including negotiating contracts, integrating systems, and driving strategic value creation

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $450,000-$600,000.
This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
