JOB SUMMARY
The Director of IT plays a crucial role as part of the senior management team, providing vision and leadership in the strategy, development, and implementation of information technology initiatives. This position is responsible for overseeing organization-wide IT operations and planning and executing information systems that support the mission. The Director formulates and implements both long- and short-term strategies for IT investment and utilization. As a technology leader, the Director collaborates with staff across the organization, bridging the gap between technology solutions and business needs. This includes offering guidance on data architecture and structure while fostering a culture of exceptional customer service and efficiency. The role involves collaboration with other executive leaders to develop and execute the organization’s overall strategy, acting as a strategic partner in driving business success.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop IT Strategy: Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to create an integrated, short- and long-term information technology strategy that aligns technology with business objectives, enhancing organizational agility and efficiency while ensuring the scalability and reliability of the technology infrastructure for future growth.
- Communicate Effectively: Convey technology decisions, progress, and challenges to key stakeholders, including executive leaders, managers, and external partners, ensuring alignment and transparency between the technology function and other departments.
- Liaison Role: Serve as the staff liaison to the IT Advisory Group, assisting in shaping the organization's evolving IT posture and strategic direction.
- Lead Training Initiatives: Spearhead organization-wide technology training initiatives to boost user adoption and compliance with established standards.
- Oversee Key Systems: Manage the implementation and adoption of critical systems, including CRM, data management practices, SaaS, and cloud services.
- Policy Development: Formulate, implement, and uphold effective IT policies and procedures to ensure access, security, and usage compliance while safeguarding organizational assets.
- Information Security Governance: Create, execute, and monitor a comprehensive information security and data risk management plan to protect all information and technology assets.
- Disaster Recovery Planning: Collaborate with organizational leaders to design, implement, monitor, and test a comprehensive disaster recovery, business continuity, and risk management plan, ensuring readiness for information security audits and compliance with relevant standards.
- Assess Risks: Conduct threat and vulnerability assessments, proactively identifying and addressing potential risks to the IT infrastructure.
- Data Governance: Lead the integration and enhancement of databases, ensuring accurate and consistent data interpretation, analysis, and reporting while developing data governance processes to support data accuracy, security, and accessibility.
- Vendor Management: Act as the primary liaison with technology vendors and the Managed Service Provider (MSP), ensuring effective service delivery and strategic alignment, while overseeing the MSP's management of technical support and troubleshooting.
- Support Services Oversight: Oversee internal support services, implementing best practices for issue tracking, monitoring, and resolution, aiming for seamless IT support and prompt issue resolution.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership and mentorship to the IT team, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and exemplary customer service.
- Audio Visual Strategy: Manage the audio-visual strategy to ensure that software and equipment solutions meet high standards for usability, reliability, and connectivity across all operational locations.
- Budget Management: Prepare and manage IT budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness by identifying opportunities for savings and making informed technology investment decisions while developing long-range investment plans and technology roadmaps to support organizational strategies.
- Drive Digital Transformation: Foster digital transformation and innovation across the organization by identifying opportunities for automation, process improvement, and the adoption of new technologies.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIALS
- Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field is required; a master’s or advanced degree is preferred. Exceptions may be made based on relevant skills and work experience.
- 7-10 years of experience managing nonprofit infrastructure, architecture, applications, and related teams.
- Proven success in managing IT projects, especially CRM implementations, data management initiatives, and cloud migrations.
- Experience collaborating with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and other IT vendors.
- Excellent communication skills, active listening ability, and proficiency in building relationships and influencing others.
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with current and emerging IT trends and requirements for complex organizations.
- Experience in strategic planning, budget development, governance structures, and process transformation within a nonprofit context.
- Knowledge of financial and business analysis techniques, with experience in analyzing costs, business cases, and risks associated with technology solutions.
- Proven experience managing remote teams, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff while driving positive change.
- Ability to attract, recruit, develop, and retain high-performing and diverse talent.
- Proficient in cloud-based systems (e.g., Microsoft 365, Concur, Zoom, Teams, Salesforce) and business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality, demonstrating maturity in professional interactions.
