System and Security Administrator
Department: Information Technology
Location: North Houston/Spring
Reports To: IT Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented System and Security Administrator to support both our system administration and security efforts. This role involves managing and maintaining our IT infrastructure, as well as ensuring the security of our systems and data. The ideal candidate is passionate about both system administration and cybersecurity and is eager to grow in both areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
System Administration Responsibilities:
· Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and network systems and servers.
· Monitor and maintain system performance, ensuring that systems are running efficiently and reliably.
· Perform routine backups, system updates, and patches.
· Assist in managing user accounts, permissions, and access controls in Active Directory and other systems.
· Help troubleshoot network issues including switches and firewalls.
· Respond to assigned tickets.
· Manage MS Teams
Security Administration Responsibilities:
· Monitor, manage, and use security tools to detect and mitigate potential threats.
· Assist in responding to security incidents and alerts, documenting findings, and escalating as necessary.
· Basic administration of firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint protection tools.
· Ensure compliance with IT security policies and assist with audits and security reviews.
· Assist in maintaining and updating security documentation, including policies, procedures, and incident response plans.
· Maintain awareness of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices in cybersecurity.
· Collaborate with the IT team to ensure security best practices are followed across the organization.
Qualifications, Skill, and Experience:
· Basic understanding of system administration, including Windows Server and/or Linux environments. Working knowledge of VMWare, ESXi and Vcenter
· Working network concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs) and basic troubleshooting, Cisco and Dell switches.
· Understanding of basic security principles, and security tools, (e.g., antivirus software, intrusion detection systems, audit tools).
· Understanding of common security threats such as malware, ransomware, phishing, denial-of-service attacks and social engineering.
· Experience using Veeam
· Experience with MDM
Preferred Qualifications
· Hands-on experience with Active Directory and Group Policy management.
· Familiarity with system monitoring and security tools such as antivirus software, firewalls, and other tools.
· Exchange Server knowledge. Anti-Spam concepts.
· Any relevant certifications, such as Security+, Network+
· Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash) is a plus.

· Associates or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or 2-4 years’ of relevant professional experience.
· Any relevant certifications, such as Security+, Network+ or documentation stating courses in progress with expected completion date.
· Some on-call or after-hours work may be required to address system or security incidents.
