Position Overview
Vectra AI's Office of the CTO is looking for an Engineering Director to lead a team tasked to build an advanced solution in the threat detection and response space. True to Vectra's heritage, this solution will blend various forms of AI (including Gen AI) and deep security expertise to take SOC capabilities to a new level. The solution will be cloud-native and thus will be open to rapid iteration. The initial customers for the solution are already engaged and providing valuable and timely feedback.
The ideal candidate will have experience with the challenges of early-stage product development and particularly with SaaS-delivered products or services applying data analytics, ML or AI.
The ideal candidate is a leader of high-performance teams who is excited to work on cutting-edge technology and who delights in exceeding customer expectations.
The role reports directly to the CTO.
Responsibilities
- Hire a top-class engineering team
- Be a key partner in the strategic planning process identifying key technical decisions, milestones, roadmap, etc.
- Build team culture which values rapid iteration with feedback over big bang delivery
- Identify potential technical risks and quickly determine whether they are real risks
- Mentor and grow team members in both their technical and soft skills
- Participate in architecture discussions and guide the technical direction of the team
- Interface with product organization to keep stakeholders abreast of progress and discuss what maturing features should be implemented in core product offering
Requirements
- Experience leading teams of senior and junior engineers on complex projects with external dependencies
- 10+ years of software engineering experience in all phases of a software development lifecycle
- Knowledge of software design principles and leading software development practices
- Strong communication & collaboration skills
- Track record of getting things done, taking initiative and challenging assumptions
- Experience with real-time processing pipelines and surrounding technologies
- Experience with delivering solutions involving ML, expert systems, or AI within streaming/real-time constraints
- Solid grounding in the technology of at least one cloud environment (AWS preferred)
Preferred
- Experience programming in any of the following: python, rust, C++
- Experience with Terraform and CI/CD
- Knowledge of networking and networking protocols
- Knowledge of Cybersecurity
Education
- BS or MS or PhD in Computer Science or similar technical degree
Our competitive total rewards package includes cash compensation within the range provided below. Actual pay for this position may vary based on the hired candidate's location, experience and relevant incumbent pay position.

$220,000—$290,000 USD
