About The Role
The Vice President of Cyber Initiatives is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and driving the company's cyber strategy, ensuring the security and resilience of information systems, and advancing the organization’s cybersecurity posture. This individual will provide visionary leadership and direction to both internal teams and external stakeholders, aligning cyber initiatives with broader organizational goals. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience from government service, having served as either a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) or as the Chief of a Cybersecurity division, and will leverage their extensive leadership background to foster innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence in the cybersecurity domain. Additional experience engaging Capitol Hill and other regulatory agencies is highly desired.
Key Responsibilities - Strategic Cybersecurity Leadership:
- Drive the creation and execution of groundbreaking cybersecurity strategies that set the organization ahead of competitors and address the evolving needs of commercial and government customers.
- Shape and communicate the company's long-term cybersecurity vision, ensuring alignment with business goals, market trends, and the broader security landscape.
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the executive leadership team, providing expert insights on cybersecurity risks, vulnerabilities, and innovations to influence key business decisions.
- Lead the adoption of next-generation cybersecurity technologies, fostering a culture that prioritizes innovation and adaptability in enhancing the organization's defenses.
- Guide the development of market-leading cybersecurity products and services by staying ahead of industry trends, conducting ongoing research, and identifying new opportunities for innovation.
- Establish the company as a thought leader in cybersecurity by driving continuous exploration of emerging technologies, trends, and partnerships that contribute to the company's reputation and influence.
- Ensure the successful execution of all cybersecurity initiatives, from concept to delivery, with a focus on high-quality, timely, and financially sound outcomes.
- Cyber Operations Oversight:
- Lead a forward-thinking cybersecurity operations team, ensuring the organization remains vigilant and prepared to detect, prevent, and respond to evolving cyber threats.
- Implement a risk-based cybersecurity framework that safeguards the organization's critical assets and operational continuity while ensuring regulatory compliance with industry standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CMMC).
- Drive continuous improvement in operational capabilities, leveraging cutting-edge technology and best practices to strengthen the company’s overall cyber defense posture.
- Partnership and Collaboration:
- Leverage extensive government and industry experience to establish strategic relationships with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as international organizations, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of cybersecurity policy and standards.
- Position the company as a leader in public-private partnerships and government-led cybersecurity initiatives, influencing the development of national policies and standards.
- Develop and lead impactful customer engagement programs focused on cybersecurity education, training, and compliance to build long-lasting relationships and enhance the organization's value proposition.
- Drive awareness and outreach initiatives through targeted campaigns, workshops, and training programs that promote best practices and help customers mitigate cyber risks.
- Forge strategic partnerships with industry leaders and commercial entities to expand the organization's reach and capabilities in delivering innovative cybersecurity solutions.
- Leadership and Team Development:
- Build and lead a world-class cybersecurity team, fostering a high-performance culture that prioritizes innovation, agility, and professional growth.
- Scale the cybersecurity function to meet the company's evolving needs, ensuring team members are equipped with the skills and resources necessary to tackle emerging threats and challenges.
- Cultivate a diverse and collaborative environment where cross-functional teams work together to develop forward-leaning cybersecurity solutions that address industry shifts and customer demands.
- Incident Response and Crisis Management:
- Lead the organization's incident response and crisis management efforts, ensuring rapid, coordinated, and effective resolution of cyber incidents.
- Oversee the development and testing of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, ensuring the organization is prepared to recover quickly from potential cyber disruptions.
- Proactively monitor the cyber threat landscape and implement advanced defensive measures that protect both the organization and its customers.
- Clear understanding of offensive and defensive cyber responses and capabilities
- Stakeholder Engagement and Cyber Awareness:
- Drive cybersecurity awareness and education internally across all levels of the organization and externally with our clients, building a culture of trust, accountability and vigilance.
- Effectively communicate the organization’s cybersecurity initiatives and risks to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment with business objectives.
- Represent the company as a cybersecurity thought leader at industry events and conferences, showcasing the organization's expertise and leadership in the field.
Qualifications
- Proven track record of senior leadership in cybersecurity, ideally having held a position as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) or Chief of a Cybersecurity division within a government agency.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in cybersecurity, with extensive experience in leadership roles.
- In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, risk management, incident response, penetration testing, forensic testing and reporting, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a forward-thinking cybersecurity strategy in complex, large-scale organizations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership, government officials, and industry peers.
- Experience with federal and international cyber policies, regulations, and standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field; master’s degree or relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, etc.) strongly preferred.
