Position Description
Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, headquartered in Lutz, FL., seeks to add a key member to its growing team by employing a dynamic Cloud Engineer to support our Systems Administration team, an extension of the Innovation and Technology department. As the Cloud Engineer, this individual will be a member of a team that is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of Lap of Love's systems including our proprietary Sunshine platform. Lap of Love possesses no legacy infrastructure and follows a cloud-first strategy. We believe that technology can be leveraged to solve complex business problems so our doctors and support staff can stay focused on what's important - the families that entrust us with their beloved pets.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a hybrid cloud environment and possess 3-5 years of experience managing AWS cloud infrastructure including the following services: EC2 (Windows Server), RDS, IAM, and S3. They will be keen to automate processes and evaluate current systems to identify opportunities for improvement in security, performance, and stability. Solving business problems with technology should be this individual's passion!
In addition to managing Lap of Love's AWS infrastructure, this person will be a member of the team that manages our Google Cloud APIs and Azure Active Directory (IdP) platforms. They will also contribute to the development and administration of our serverless integration and business process automation framework that is currently utilizing Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, and AWS Lambda's. This individual should be comfortable reading and writing Python scripts, working with JSON, and have an intermediate understanding of APIs.
The Cloud Engineer will be a member of a team of engineers with varying levels of experience and expertise and should be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
Requirements
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain AWS infrastructure including: EC2, S3, IAM, and RDS
- Audit and configure access control policies in AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
- Collaborate with the development team to maintain and upgrade the environment as development needs evolve
- Collaborate with the development team to triage issues as it relates to our proprietary Sunshine application
- Assist in the maintenance, development, and management of Lap of Love's serverless integration and business process automation framework consisting of Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, and AWS Lambda
- Assist in the development and testing of automation scripts written in Python and PowerShell
- Contribute to the development, documentation, and testing of Lap of Love's disaster recovery and data retention policies
- Support any projects that rely on Lap of Love's cloud infrastructure on an as needed basis
- Identify areas of opportunity to improve system performance, security, and stability
- Serve as a Level 3 escalation point for any issues related to cloud systems or applications as needed
Experience, Education, And Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, system administration, or another related field, required but can be substituted with AWS Associate Solutions Architect certification
- 3-5 years of progressive experience managing AWS infrastructure, required
- 3-5 years of experience working in a Windows Server environment, required
- 1-3 years of experience working with Python and PowerShell scripting for automation, required
- AWS Cloud Practitioner Certificate, preferred
- Experience with Amazon EC2, S3, RDS, and IAM
- Experience with Azure Active Directory
- Ability to prioritize based on urgency and impact with little direction
- Ability to write concise and detailed technical documentation
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to confidently engage with staff at all levels and across multiple parts of our organization, while offering a best-in-class service experience
- Self-starter with excellent follow-up skills, knowing what needs to be done and taking initiative to do so without hesitation
Physical And Other Job Requirements
- Some early mornings or late nights may be required
- Able to sit for prolonged periods of time of up to 8 hours per day
- Able to frequently communicate by telephone and through use of computer technologies, including but not limited to email and video conferencing
- Possess manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and the ability to operate a computer, read a computer screen and type on a keyboard for prolonged periods of time of up to 8 hours per day
- Able to multitask using multiple computer tabs/platforms while engaging in conversation
