Job Summary
The Network Administrator will be responsible for maintaining our organization’s IT network, servers, and security systems. This role requires a deep understanding of healthcare IT requirements, including HIPAA regulations, patient data confidentiality, and electronic health record (EHR) systems. The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, be able to work independently, and possess strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Design, install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software infrastructure according to best practices, including routers, switches, wireless controllers, and firewalls
- Monitor network performance and integrity; troubleshoot and resolve issues (e.g., network latency, connectivity problems)
- Implement network security measures and protocols to protect sensitive patient data and comply with HIPAA regulations
- Manage and optimize network bandwidth, including adjusting configurations for optimal performance
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and IT team members to ensure network availability and reliability for critical healthcare systems
- Perform regular security assessments and audits to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies
- Maintain documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and processes
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users; train staff on network usage and best practices
- Stay current with technological developments in the healthcare IT industry; evaluate and recommend new network technologies and solutions
Preferred Skills / Abilities
- Proficiency in access and distribution LAN switching environments with VLAN’s, RSTP, EtherChannel, Multicast and QoS
- Excellent Layer 2 & 3 networking skills
- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve network-related issues efficiently
- Proficiency in monitoring network performance and capacity planning to ensure optimal network operation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues, stakeholders, and end-users
- Ability to translate technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical staff
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and methodologies in a dynamic IT environment
- Ability to work with external vendors and service providers to procure, implement, and support network infrastructure and services
- Capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Leadership skills to guide and mentor junior team members or collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects
- Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues
Education and Experience
- Valid driver's license
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 3 + years working as a Network Administrator or in a similar role within the healthcare industry is preferred
- Proficiency in network protocols and technologies
- Hands-on experience with networking hardware management tools
- Familiarity with electronic medical records systems and healthcare-specific applications is desirable
