Role Summary:
We’re looking for an experienced Strategic Messaging and Copywriting Manager to join the Sophos Brand and Integrated Marketing team, working remotely within the USA ET time-zone hours. You’ll be writing for the Brand and Integrated Marketing team and will contribute to and maintain the Sophos strategic messaging hierarchy, as well as consulting with other teams on our messaging and writing copy for items such as campaign copy, video scripts, web copy, social ads, ad copy, positioning narratives, etc.
You’ll know what makes a good story and can dig into technical details to pull out the most insightful elements. You know what keeps readers engaged and you’ll be a pro at creating copy that supports our SEO efforts.
You will maintain the Sophos brand messaging hierarchy and distill that into an ongoing campaign copy library for our tier 1 marketing campaigns for internal teams at Sophos to use.
You are the guru of the apostrophe placement and can spot a typo at 300 paces. You can cope with writing in American English and know what the Oxford comma is.
What You Will Do:Copywriting/copy editing - Owning and maintaining the copy libraries for our tier 1 campaigns, aligning to an overarching editorial calendar, ensuring all product launches and campaigns are covered
- Copyedit other writing, reports, articles, and technical papers for accuracy, tone, and style
- Generate impactful ad and web copy that effectively connects with target personas, clearly conveying key messages and value propositions
- Understands, segments, and targets audience needs and adapts communications strategies accordingly
Storytelling - Develop storytelling opportunities by using data and insights
- Understands the power of storytelling and can create a story arc that is then translated across awareness, consideration, and conversion communications
- Determines the format of stories. Leverages expertise to determine what format is most appropriate and meaningful for a story and target audience(s). Attends to cadence of storytelling (e.g., duration, evolution), including content development and curation to land a story
- Collaborates across teams to develop stories in ways that generate positive perceptions towards Sophos. Ensures confluence of content and audience across stories. Creates narratives based on messaging frameworks that drive content development and deployment.
Collaboration - Work with wider marketing and product teams to create copy for a wide variety of initiatives, making sure to always maintain Sophos' tone of voice
- With guidance, proactively includes relevant others to inform content and messaging
- Engages with internal and external stakeholders to meet objectives
- Leads and directs agency teams as needed
- Leverages technical expertise and knowledge of successful campaigns in managing work of self and others
- Reports to the Director of Brand and Integrated Marketing
Drive and Monitor Messaging and Impact - Monitors, tracks, and analyzes the impact of and responses to messaging for a given project. Creates responsive materials as needed. Engages others appropriately in responsive efforts. Leverages insights to inform data-driven proactive approaches
What You Will Bring:- 8+ years’ experience in messaging, copywriting, or similar role
- 3-5 years of cybersecurity experience is highly desirable, extensive technology experience is essential
- SEO knowledge
- Ability to take content from idea to production
- Can turn technically complicated prose into easy-to-understand copy
- Excellent planning, communication, time-management, and follow-through skills
- Likes covering a wide range of subjects related to IT security
- Strong editorial skills
- Proven ability to work with and appropriately support senior management teams
- Passionate, creative thinker who is proactive in driving new initiatives
- Comfortable working across all levels of the organization, using influence to achieve results
In Canada, the base salary for this role ranges from $113,000 to $188,000. In addition to base salary, we offer additional compensation including bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s specific pay within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including job-related skills, training, location, experience, relevant education, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
In the United States, the base salary for this role ranges from $107,000 to $178,000. In addition to base salary, we offer additional compensation including bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s specific pay within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including job-related skills, training, location, experience, relevant education, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
