Job Summary
Rotordynamics Systems Engineer responsible for Gas Turbine rotor and bearings design, manufacture, test and after-market troubleshooting and diagnostics support. Scope includes responsibility for rotors, bearings, adjacent engine static structures, as well as interaction with package accessory and control systems. Design responsibilities will include single-component design, system-level design (rotordynamic analyses), and applied process improvements (balancing methodology, production sequences, or testing plans). Manufacturing support responsibilities will involve regular collaboration with production engineers and shop personnel to provide guidance for manufacturing of components critical to rotordynamic system behavior. Field and test support responsibilities will involve regular interaction with test engineers and field personnel to ensure proper acquisition of vibration data, diagnose and assess product health, and provide trouble-shooting recommendations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum Years of Experience: 3-5 years work experience or equivalent specialized research in rotordynamics
- Minimum Education Level: Masters Degree or Bachelors with equivalent experience
- Educational specialization or background rotordynamics engineering & bearing design for turbomachinery (or equivalent rotordynamics experience)
- Turbomachinery industry experience required (specific experience with rig, field, or test support preferred)
- Familiarity with FEA based rotordynamic or structural modeling and bearing codes
- Familiarity with vibration data collection using multiple sensor types, data analysis, and diagnostics
- Experience with Turbomachinery troubleshooting or failure analysis
- Ability to perform Concept and Detail designs
Top Candidates Have:
- Masters degree or Ph.D. specializing in rotordynamics
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Methods
- Experience with working across functional groups to improve processes based on failure analysis or root cause investigations
- ProE/CREO Experience
- Hands on experience with multi-channel vibration data acquisition system - data collection and analysis
- Experience using finite element software (ANSYS preferred) to perform detailed analysis of mechanical components
Stipend
A relocation stipend will also be provided. The stipend amount is based on your move distance, family size, and homeownership, according to Solar's policy. You will receive the taxable relocation stipend with your first paycheck.

Summary Pay Range:
$117,940.00 - $176,910.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
