About The Role
Gusto is in search of an experienced leader to oversee and grow our Business Insurance offering, currently centered around Workers Compensation Insurance. We have an exciting early vision, and are looking for the right leader to enhance and scale our existing offering, while expanding the customer pain points our Business Insurance product can solve, in order to help our small and medium-sized business customers stay compliant, and protect their business and workforce.
About The Team
As a member of Gusto’s product leadership team, you will be responsible for building the growing Business Insurance R&D team, and assume responsibility for the business overall. You will closely partner with various cross-functional departments, including Partnerships, Marketing, and Sales, all collaborating to build the roadmap for and deliver the ultimate Business Insurance solution for our valued customers.

Here’s What You’ll Do Day-to-day
- Lead Gusto’s Business Insurance app including the recruitment, hiring, and empowerment of a world-class R&D team
- Take ownership of the product and business from end to end. In addition to guiding the product development team, you will collaborate closely with our go-to-market, operations, and service teams to ensure a seamless and fully functional customer experience
- Set and execute a multi-year product vision and strategy for Gusto’s Business Insurance offering; develop and drive the product roadmap for a cross-functional team comprising Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, Operators, and Marketers
- Understand customer pain points, devise solutions, and then iterate through execution
Here’s What We're Looking For
- Possess 10+ years of hands-on product development leadership and/or General Manager (GM) experience within an R&D team in a modern technology business
- Demonstrate a proven track record of scaling the impact of a product line within a multi-product company
- Exhibit comprehensive domain expertise in Business Insurance products, including Worker’s Compensation, General Liability, Professional Liability, Cybersecurity and more, coupled with insights into how the industry is evolving in response to emerging technologies
- Knowledge of insurance industry specific business models and metrics
- Embrace a GM mindset and possess the ability to lead a product and team
- Display strong strategic thinking skills, capable of evaluating multiple paths, making effective tradeoffs, and articulating a clear and compelling forward plan
- Employ a highly collaborative approach with a demonstrated ability to drive impact and influence across multiple EPDD) organizations and non-EPDD centralized teams such as Sales, Marketing, and Operations
- Excel as a team leader who inspires others to follow with excellence in mentorship, people leadership, and recruiting capabilities.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $214,000 to $246,000 in Denver & most major metro locations, and $251,000 to $289,000 for San Francisco, New York, & Seattle. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately
2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
