Under the supervision of the Associate Director of IT Engineering & Practice Systems, the Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the analysis, architecture, design, implementation, and maintenance of production operating system deployment, updates, security, and group policy enforcement. This role involves managing Active Directory, Intune, Microsoft Landing Zone, and operating system security structure and policy design and implementation. The Senior Systems Engineer also creates and implements operating system support methods, tools, and automation for server and workstation tasks through scripting and programming languages. Ensuring client services and satisfaction are key aspects of this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement procedures and processes to enhance the efficiency and quality of infrastructure applications and systems.
- Install, maintain, and administer Active Directory, Azure, Intune, GPO, Landing Zone, and Office365 to meet service needs.
- Utilize in-depth application knowledge to identify, manage, and resolve complex issues related to Active Directory, Azure, Intune, operating system management, and security DevOps.
- Create, deploy, and maintain a standard operating system deployment infrastructure for all servers, workstations, and operating systems in both enterprise and cloud environments.
- Engineer and implement operating system deployment, software, and patch distribution management tools such as RIS/WDS, WPE, MECM/SCCM/OSD, Intune, and WSUS.
- Evaluate and recommend workstation hardware, including desktops, laptops, tablets, peripherals, and accessories.
- Ensure all operating systems have the latest security updates and service packs, including device driver maintenance through patch management and software distribution.
- Automate installations and repetitive tasks associated with workstation and server administration using scripting languages like PowerShell and Windows Host Script.
- Lead in application installation package creation with Task Sequencing, PowerShell, and Windows MSI.
- Design and support infrastructure for AI, Copilot solutions, and endpoint management across all domain and cloud-joined workstations and servers.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Landing Zone and PowerShell to resolve and troubleshoot problems within areas of expertise.
- Provide technical support to other IT analysts, assisting with operating system deployment, cloud, and application software installation.
- Log technical support incidents and requests into the ticket management system, ensuring SLAs and OLAs are met for incident response and resolution. Provide clear updates to incidents and communicate resolutions to users.
- Participate in problem-solving and knowledge-sharing initiatives and other process improvements.
- Prepare and update technical documentation, ensuring non-technical decision-makers understand technical matters.
- Be available outside of standard working hours as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent educational and work experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in creating and supporting operating system images for all workstation and server hardware and virtual machines in an enterprise environment.
- Experience in a legal environment is a plus, with experience maintaining the core infrastructure of workstation and server imaging, software, and patch distribution management such as RIS/WDS, WPE, MECM/OSD, WSUS.
- Strong knowledge of scripting languages and automation of repetitive tasks through scripting languages like PowerShell. Additional knowledge of Windows Host Script and Visual Basic scripting and programming is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of application installation package creation using Task Sequencing, PowerShell, and/or Windows MSI.
- Experience administrating and managing Microsoft Landing Zone, Azure, Intune, and other Microsoft Cloud technologies.
- Ability to perform quality assurance and testing for both client/server and web applications.
- Ability to collaborate with software development, software integration specialists, and business process owners.
- Solid understanding of the application lifecycle process, including requirement analysis, quality assurance, design, scheduling, implementation, issue tracking, version control, and deployment.
