Position Overview -
The Nebraska Defense Research Corporation (NDRC) is seeking a skilled and certified System Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will maintain system administrator certification as defined in DoD 8570.01-M, complete necessary documentation, and ensure cybersecurity training and certification to DoD baseline standards prior to assuming duties unsupervised.
Duties -
The System Administrator will:
System Security and Maintenance:
- Implement required software patches and security fixes.
- Test and validate proper operation and configuration of security patches and fixes.
- Ensure IT meets NDRC minimum baseline security requirements before connecting systems to any NDRC network.
- Update system Plan of Action and Milestones with mitigation actions as directed.
- Block or disconnect noncompliant IT from the NDRC network if the Plan of Action and Milestones is not approved.
Access and Permissions:
- Coordinate with relevant managers to define responsibilities for application software and permissions.
- Assign and maintain user identification and passwords in accordance with Security Technical Implementation Guides.
- Administer user privileges and permissions on applicable systems.
Cybersecurity Coordination:
- Coordinate with the Command Cybersecurity Manager, Officer, and Authorizing Official Representative to implement security policies and procedures.
- Assist in developing and maintaining Risk Management Framework documentation.
- Conduct annual cybersecurity control and Security Technical Implementation Guide reviews.
System Configuration and Software Management:
- Assist in maintaining information system configuration control and application software management.
- Ensure software licenses and documentation are maintained and notify NDRC before changes occur.
- Comply with procedures for installing freeware, shareware, or public domain software.
- Ensure software is virus-free and does not violate copyright laws.
Incident Response and Backup Management:
- Register for, obtain, and use DoD Public Key Infrastructure certificates as required.
- Notify NDRC and operational chain of incidents or intrusions and isolate the system as directed.
- Maintain at least two separate accounts for access to network resources.
- Back up user-level and system-level information weekly and store critical software securely.
- Test backup information monthly for reliability and integrity.
- Provide recovery and reconstitution of information systems after disruptions.
Audit and Compliance:
- Work with NDRC to ensure audit log information is captured and safeguarded.
- Configure information systems to provide only approved capabilities.
- Attach and implement only approved information systems or software.
- Label internal hard drives before installation.
- Do not enable privileged user accounts without Command Cybersecurity Manager approval.
- Support the execution of information system contingency plan tests.
- Notify the Information System Security Manager of changes affecting security posture.
- Employ automated tools for integrity verification and address discrepancies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -
- Must be United States citizen and possess a final Top Secret (TS) security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively work independently and function in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work calmly under pressure.
- Must be certified at the IAT II level or higher per DoD 8570.01-M.
- Demonstrated experience in system administration and cybersecurity.
- Strong knowledge of DoD security policies and procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various cybersecurity and IT personnel.
- Excellent problem-solving and incident response skills.
- Preferred knowledge in Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating System, Windows Operating System, and virtualization maintenance to include type-1 hypervisor deployment and administration.
Required Qualifications/Certifications -
- Maintain system administrator certification per DoD 8570.01-M. through certification in one or more of the following: CEH, CySA+, GICSP, SSCP, CHFI, CFR, Cloud+, or CND.
- Complete required documentation, cybersecurity training, and certification to DoD baseline standards.
- Ensure personnel performing cybersecurity tasks are certified at the IAT II (or higher) level for tasks including:
- Creating/modifying email group mailboxes
- Creating/deleting email and user accounts
- Downloading/installing standard functional drivers
- Installing peripherals (e.g., printers, scanners)
- Locking/unlocking user accounts
- Modifying user account privileges
- Resetting user passwords
- Running and viewing queries and account properties
Desired Qualifications/Certifications -
- Maintain system efficiency
- Basic knowledge or certifications in Red Hat/Linux.
- ·Networking certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA.
- Windows administration certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator.
- Virtualization experience or certifications, including VMware or Citrix.
